Faulty Rain Sensor- Replace Windshield
Took my C230 Coupe in today for some minor stuff and happened to mention that the rain sensor seemed to be acting up. Low and behold, the Service Advisor just informed me that they confirmed the faulty sensor and will replace the entire winshield.
Has anyone had this done? I'm a little concerned about future rattles since I already have a nagging rattle on the passenger side.
On the upside I got an E430 loaner!

personally, I think the white signature sticker on the lower right hand corner of the windshield is too large. Quarter of the size would be better.

2002 C230K 120K Miles Just as good as new
I replaced the windsheild on my (just sold) 1967 230 SL recently, and the windshield people (who were working under contract to the MB service center) insisted on putting the Daimler-Benz sticker on the corner.
The car originally didn't have the sticker.
So the answer is that your new windsheild will (more than likely) have the sticker.

That seems strange that they have to replace the whole windshield -- why can't they just remove the sensor module and replace it? Doesn't it just stick onto the windshield?
Good luck. Does your dealer do the windshield swap or do they sublet? I'm in MD too -- who is your dealer? I've had 2 windshields replaced in the last 5 years on 2 different cars, and each one had to be redone! The first, they didn't seal it sufficiently and I heard road noise. The second one they didn't position the glass correctly, plus they got the "goo" all over my A-pillar - I was pissed! I'd be real sure they really need to take out the whole thing.

I'm confused. I recall an earlier thread on this subject that the sensor is simply "clipped" to the windshield. Like MarkL, I would think they only replace the sensor unit, without need to remove the glass. You might do a search on "rain sensor." I'm being lazy.
If they really do need to replace the whole windshield, I would ask them to be sure the white sticker is included. Otherwise you'll have to buy it (later) from the parts bin ($1.50?)

i hope my rais sensor never goes out. You would think MB would make the parts individualy replaceable instead of the whole windshield.

Rain Sensor-Update
After I posted my original message yesterday I received a follow-up call from my service advisor. He told me that he had been mistaken and that (as indicated by some of you in this thread) the current model year does not have the sensor in the windshield itself.
The sensor was quickly replaced and I picked up the car yesterday evening.
For those of you you asked, my dealer is Euro Motorcars in Bethesda. While they will not guarantee a mercedes as a loaner, your chances of getting one are very good particularly if you are an early arrival.

Hey Big Dog, I'm really glad to hear they didn't have to replace the windshield. I bought my car at Euro also, but I've never needed to take it in yet. Who was your service advisor -- I'm just curious. I know one of the guys there who used to work at a Mazda dealer where I bought an '85 RX-7. He's worked at Euro for about 10 years - Jim Pirelli.
