C320 - 29.5mpg

Hi guys.

I've been driving my c320 wagon since march last year and just today discovered that cruise control bumps up my mpg to 29.5 in town! If i only knew it earlier . Got a question tho, is it possible to activate the cruise cntrl or accelerate from the wheel? It's kinda awkward to use the cruise stick all the time in town lol.

Thanks

I noticed you had 32 miles on the trip odo. How many miles does it take on the trip odo to reach that 29.5mpg figure?

My roundtrip commute is about 40 miles and i'm lucky to break 23mpg on a good day of city/highway commuting. I keep my tires inflated to 40psi and attempt to get yearly 4 wheel alignments. I'm trying to figure out if there's a part of the engine i've neglected to keep in tune after 90,000miles and 10yrs.

Well, I did about 35 miles today and that's it. A friend of mine told me yesterday that his merc was doing great gas milage with the cruise on, so I started driving this morning and after like 3 miles when the engine got warmed up I reset the trip and started using cruise whenever I could. It was kinda busy today as well so 29.5mpg blew my mind away. I was doing 33.5mpg at some point but got caught up in half a mile queue to traffic lights. You accelerate and slow down using the stick. The annoying thing is that you kinda look like a grandpa using this driving style lol.

My merc has 112k miles so I think it's your driving style as I was averaging about 22mpg before too.

dang... I dont think i could deal w/ using the cruise control stick to drive around city, BUT if it adds that kinda economy, I might have to give it a try.

My lead foot has been giving me ~20 around the city.

I just calculated what I could have saved for the past 4k miles... $717 in 850 days with gas price @ $3.67. It's not terrible lol

Nah $3.67 is the average I somehow figured. I didn't do just 4k miles in 2,5 years lmao. The trip odo must be counting up till 9999 miles or something and then it starts from 0 again.

Btw, I paid $4.34 2 days ago in San Diego.
