Check Fuses 31, 52 & 57. If 52 has blown replace with 20 amp as per MB TSM in Techinfo section of stickies.

Same thing happens to me sometimes.
I believe the problem is in the Key.
If The car won't start, I take the key out and wipe my finger over the sensor at the end of the key and the ignition, Put the key back in, Turn it.... and Presto.
It's either that the key is dirty or maybe the battery is slowly going in the key itself.

well the reason I say that, Sometimes I can't even get the car to unlock unless I'm two feet away or press the fob buttons multiple times for it to work.
Doesn't the chip inside the FOB need a source of power to transmit the signal?

The key requires a good battery for RF to work at a distance & IR to work close to the handle window.
Once the key is inserted in the EIS it is inductively powered to achieve handshake & authorise start.

And OP I wonder if he figured out the problem too. I just replaced the fuse 52 with a 20 so we'll see if it continues to act up

If you're too quick sometimes it won't start.. I've had that happen to me. It's very rare. If it just happened once then I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Ok so I tried starting my car this afternoon and it still doing the same thing even after changing the fuse. Few tries later and it starts...so now check the cps?

The CPS will not make any difference if it won't crank over. Does it crank over?

If I were you, I 'd check ground connections (at the battery as well as at the starter).
Then, I'd look at the ignition switch itself.

If you have done fuse 52 then check the starter relay & earths/grounds. Try & jump start straight onto the starter motor to make sure the kick-in solenoid & motor are operative. There are some fusible links but they can't be erratic - It either works or it's blown.
Pray it's not an EIS.

so I decided to open my keys and see if that could be the problem too. Still not sure if it is, but i did see on the board where the secondary coil is, that there were gaps in the coils and I don't know if t hats the problem with the start? you electric experts would probably know.
I also just ordered the relay so I'll be able to determine if that's the culprit or not.

Show us a pic of the key internals. Moviela has a post on the forum that shows where the induction coil can come loose from the PC board.

KEY #1
KEY #1 Reverse side
KEY #2
KEY #2 reverse side
See the second key on the coil, there's some separation? Well turns out it's not the problem, because I finally tried my second key and even today my key would sometime not start the car.
I REALLY hope it's not the EIS! But would the EIS still not work if it recognizes the key?? =(((

more and more this problem persists =[
I just replaced the starter hoping my car would start normally each time but it still continues. It's actually gotten worse. Sometimes it'll take about 30 tries or so for the car to crank and turn on. I just ordered the CPS sensor though just as a last resort attempt at fixing this before sending the car off to a mechanic to diagnose.
if anyone has any suggestions on any other methods or fixes I could try, please help. thanks!
