2004 C240 4matic wagon
Hello everyone! :)

I thought I'd introduce myself. I've used the forum as a non registered member for many years. My first mercedes was a 1984 380se.

I bought this car out of college to drive home from san francisco to milwaukee. it torched an axle and left my stranded RIGHT at the door to yosemite national park. It ended up being a fantastic impromptu vacation with my grandfather who had somehow thought to bring a tent. Sabotage? Anyways. I drove the car for many years. It ended up getting caught in a huge hailstorm and being taken by the insurance company. I've seen it driving around hailed out to this day in Minneapolis a couple years later.

A volkswagen guy at heart, I've owned many many many volkswagens as daily drives. I went to see a friend who works at the local dealership to pickup a 2007 or so passat. After driving I was bored with it. It just didn't feel fantastic. My wife caught a c240 wagon 4matic out of the corner of her eye. It was a 2004 so I assumed higher mileage. upon closer inspection it was traded in for a toureg by the original owner. It only had 41,000 miles @ $16000. I decided to take a look.

We drove the car and fell in love. After driving the benz we basically couldn't go back to a passat. We need a wagon due to the nature of my job, so this fit the bill perfectly. we bought it and took it home.

came with some brand new snow tires which will work out
really well due to all the snow up here in minneapolis:

the car drives so nice I'm really hesitant to do anything with it. I generally can't leave well enough alone which is evidenced by my 2 project vw's:

Ive been kind of feeling out local vendors for some suspension. It would be nice if it was a little bit lower, but I dont necessarily want to spoil the handling, or turn it into a snow plow. Any thoughts? Is there anything I should really be looking at and watching out for on this car in the near future? Are there seat upgrades? Like AMG or Sclass or anything that is pretty nice? any advice or direction would be great. I'll be doing a lot of reading in the near future.

Low miles and all, but 16K? I guess the market is a bit different up there. The wagon looks nice.

And so do the veedubs. Always loved the early Sciroccos but MK I GTI is one of the cars on the list of cars I'd like to own one of these days.

"clean retail" nada guide shows 17,400. They wouldnt budge much on the price. The extra set of wheels w/ brand new tires was a big plus. There isn't a ding, dent, scratch or scuff anywhere on the interior or exterior. its absolutely perfect. I did get 3000$ for my 1999 passat w/ 200,000 miles on trade in though. it was pretty rough.

Absolutely love the two vdub!! Last two photos are spectacular. I had a new beetle 1.8t before although it wasn't modded. A lot of vdub guys are very easy going.

Grats on the wagon.

imagine the beetle, with 1300lbs less weight, and a bunch more more hp, and you have that scirocco.

and thanks for the compliment. here is my website...

awesome photography skill scirocco must be very fun.

what mods are you looking for?

as for suspensions, if you want coilovers currently best deal would be either the TEIN basic or the H&R coilover. check allsprings dot com for H&R. they are around $1000. or if you want something cheaper there's something called D2 coilover or the BC coilover.

if you just want springs, I saw a set of Carlsson lowering springs going for $190 on ebay a few days ago.

Man look at those engine bays!

Ive been frequenting the VW forums lately for the GF's GTi, and there is so much cool stuff going on over there! Makes us MB folks look VERY conservative!

Congrats on the wagon - Im secretly hoping you smooth the engine bay on it :P

I'm leaving the engine alone. I imagine there isn't much you can do w/ these v6's? too much wiring for me to want to screw around with....

I think i can get the H&R's at a good rate for the 4matic. anyone have input on how much it changes the ride?

4-matic huh? You might have to contact h&r or vogtland springs directly. I don't think there is a coilover available for 4-matic

I love your garage ... I'd spend a lot of time in there

P.S. > Let me know what part number is recommended for the H&R springs on a 4matic. I've been researching this and is my next mod this month. It's appreciated!

Thank you so very much. The H&R part number for 4matics is 29230-1, which H&R charges a lot more than RWD set up. I'd rather avoid hassle and order the recommended part from H&R ... good luck with the purchase.
