2005 c230 sport - does hole in glove box mean it is pre-wired for Iphone?
Hello everyone,
I've searched various previous threads relating to the Ipod install and my new (used) c230. It does appear my c230 has a pre-existing hole in the glove box so my question is do I just need to buy some sort of connector that hooks into my iphone and into this hole?
Kind regards & thanks in advance to anyone who can help out here...

Wow that is a crappy picture dam dude. Well if it has a 1.8 jack in there then yes you just need the audio cable and you car can play audio from your iPhone. This is not the full integration but will give you HQ music to the stereo. Just hold down the CD changer button till it says AUX.

Lol - sorry for the bad pic - took it this morning in garage. Here is another pic of same thing. BTW - is the aux cable you refer to something that needs to be bought from MB or will any car parts or electronic store have this available?

Lol - works for me! Will pop in to the BB store around the corner and ask for the item you listed in above thread. I assume I then just plug and play?
Are there any additional instructions that I will need to follow so that iphone will play through CD/stereo/car speakers?
AND if I wanted to sync my iphone and use the phone through the car than I would need to contact MB for their ipod install kit / bluetooth puck OR aftermarket version of this? At least that is what I have read on other threads.

right now all you need is the 1/8" cable. it will not charge your iphone/ipod and you will still need to control it through the device. I had the AUX kit at first. It was ok but the sound wasnt that great as you would get hissing when you plugged in your ipod into the cig lighter to charge. i have recently upgraded to the full OEM MB Ipod integration kit. there is a pic by pic thread here that shows you how to install it. it is MUCH better as far as sound quality and you can see the track title in ur dash display and you can control the ipod through your steering wheel controls. it will also charge the ipod. you will STILL see AUX INPUT on the head unit. you cannot 'sync' your iphone witjh your benz unless you have the telephone system installed with the Bluetooth puck (search the forum) good luck i have the same car with the Harmon Kardon!

You will only be able to play the music through the aux jack in the glove compartment. If you want to be able to use your iPhone and have the phonebook through the screen, you will have to fork over the money for the integrated phone kit through either MB or other providers like Cartronics

When I bought my car in 2005, I went and had the phone integration kit installed. It was expensive, and now there are a lot more bluetooth options out there.

Ok so I picked up the auxiliary cable plugged it into hole in glove box and worked as expected. Sound quality is decent (definitely better than radio frequency adapter.). Thank you very much for the help.
It is kind of annoying that I have to close the glove box and stretch the cord all the way across front passenger seat into cup holder where I drop my phone into ...did see in previous thread where someone spliced into middle counsel to connect .... Is that an option?
Just curious --- how do I know that previous owner did not already have car Bluetooth compatible w/ blue tooth puck??? Is there a way to check for this?
Side note - while out picking up aux cord stopped into apple store to get new iPhone 4s 64gb. Sure would be nice to sync the phone with car computer/ phone... Unless of course car is already setup with necessary components.

In the center console under the lid, you would see the anvil shaped connector where the BT Puck goes, or the phone cradle if you had one of the older phones that MB offered. In addtion there is a phone electronics installed in the trunk under the plastic cover near the forward end of the trunk, under the trunk liner.

Yep, I did the phone integration and voice control in both my car and my wife's SLK right after she bought the SLK. Even though the BT system is aging by now, it is still a very nice integration and I have not regretted what I spent on it. Even though there are better navigation systems available now...I haven't even regretted retrofitting Comand either.

Oh I'd buy the beer, the jager, the Patron, dinner, whatever.. I want this mod so bad but I'm just too afraid to pull and prod in the interior. I'm not talking about the aux input, but the full on iPod integration.

2005 C Wagon (No snickering please!)

I wrote a piece on how to install he Ipod adapter.
Repeated:
Many people want to install their own Ipod kit, but are unsure how hard it is. Well, its not worth $200, but I cut my own grass too. You need a 2005 or later car with a radio that says "AUX input Active" if you hold the CDC button down for 2 seconds.
Kit contains two cables, two screws, a small electronics package, some velcro to attach the electronics package, and user instructions.
There are no instructions for installation.
There is a knockout on the right side of the glovebox. you push the ipod connector through the hole, and a grommet on the cable holds it. Route the cable behind the glovebox toward the radio.
Remove the upper vent for the AC, the vent has latches to allow the vent to roll up and down to remove the screws holding the vent. Press down the catch lugs in the air nozzle duct. Remove battery neg cable, attach quiescent current retention unit.
Remove two screws holding upper switch panel and tilt down to remove. When replacing listen for audible click. Now it gets tough to describe. You need a wedge MBZ # 115 589 03 59 00(a tapered piece of wood or plastic that will not damage the surface of the interior) to remove the shifter cover. Lift up between the cover and the ash tray. The catches are about 3/4 inch from the right and left edge of the shifter cover, be careful, don't force it. Then pry up the ash tray. Take out the air conditioner control panel. Now you can see the four screws that hold the radio in the car. Remove these and pull the head unit out.
Remove the connector from the back of the radio and plug in the 'Y' cable from the kit. Plug the connector removed from the radio into the other end of the 'Y' cable. now move the MOST fiber optic cables from the radio connector to the same position they were on the radio before. Careful with them, they are glass and should not be bent, kinked, crushed, smashed or molested. The ends should not be touched. Find a spot on the firewall for the electronics package, and connect it to the 'Y' cable. Now plug the harness side of the ipod cable into the harness.
Now my favorite line:
Reassemble in reverse order.
A couple of considerations....many people report that the volume is too low, and you are locked into using an Ipod, as it only fits the plug on Apple MP3 players.
Many people install the Aux input cable. This is only $ 40. and allows use of any device with a headphone jack.

Agreed. It was actually very easy. Sounds great in my car. I wish something would show up on my COMAND unit screen, but having steering wheel control and display on my instrument cluster dash is worth having it alone.

I got the kit on Ebay for <$200.
