Tail Lamp Messages
Two weeks ago the message "Tail Lamp Left" came on in the dash message center of my '05 C230. I replaced the bulb. After replacing the bulb the message remained and an additional message came on, "Backup Light On".
I've confirmed that all the lights (Parking, Turn, Reverse and Brake) are functioning correctly. I've pulled the left tail and reverse light bulbs and cleaned the connections. The messages still remain.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I appreciate any insight or advice you can provide.

The car is probably using the backup light to substitute.. the car is smart like that.
As for why it isn't working, I'm not sure since you have replaced it and cleaned connections.

I'm not sure what you mean by using the backup light as a substitute. The reverse lights and tail lights are all functioning properly. I just can't get rid of the error messages. Today I just replaced the bulbs for backup and tail lamps on both sides and still the same messages appear. Perhaps the car is too smart for it's own good.
