any issues with 225/45/17s on a 17x8 wheels?

Hi guys,

My current Yokohama AVS (the two rears) are practically bald. They are 235/40/17s. I have the C7 wheels (took em off 1 week after I got the car and replaced by my Flik Lex 17x8s). I just moved into a new place so i'm a bit short on cash. I really like to keep my current wheels on so a friend suggested that I should just take the current 235/40/17s off and replace with 225/45/17s (factory Conti's....sux I know ). Will they be okay on 17x8s? Do I have to do anything else after doing this (alignment, balance, etc)? Thanks all.

it should be fine. by doing so, u will b goin back to the original outer wheel diameter. difference from your 235s back to 225s would only be a 7.65mm higher tire.

thanks for your reply bruno. I was concern with the width more actually going from 235 to 225 on 17x8. I know the factory C7 wheels are 17x7.5 so dunno if the rim of the wheel will be sticking out so it'll be exposed to scratching

I'm running 225/45-17 on 17 x 8 wheels without any problems. Your 235s were actually the incorrect size. You should try to maintain a diameter of 25" so you don't upset your speedometer and odometer. Your 235s actually only gave you a diameter of 24.4".

i know the speedo reading would be incorrect. Infact with the current setup vs stock my speedo is showing 2.3% faster then the actual speed. So when speedo is showing 60mph i'm actually doing 58.6mph. Considering the speedo is 100% correct of course.

changed the tires back to the Conti's. I forgot how comfy they are and less road noise then my Yokohama's but man there's a bit of a floaty feel, less contact to the road.....I didnt check but i dont think they're Z rated ....well this will have to do until my financial status change.
