Service B oil change checkup
I am due for a service b checkup on my 100k c230. But with the holidays and stuff going on, I am broke. The cost is $170 for the service. Can I still drive it for awhile or will I be in danger if I continue to drive it? I check the oil daily. Need the pro's advice. Thanks

Why on earth would you take it to a dealer?! You could probably have the oil changed for about $90 in parts and labor elsewhere. The rest is the dealer kicking tires essentially.

The 2006 C230 has the M272 2.5L V6 with an 8.5L oil capacity. Not the 5.5L capacity of the 05 M271 cars. Also the real fleece filters are available for it, not sure the exact price on those. But it should still be in the $90-110 range for an oil change.

9 quarts of Mobil 1 0W-40 is $63, + or - for local sales tax, at Walmart. Shelf price in Houston, TX is about $6.50/quart.

Oh I agree. No argument here. Even at $170, I'd have to get a rape kit and counseling to get over it

Yes, rotors and pads. I could have cut that price in half and skipped the loaner car. See, counseling does help

$348 for my front brake job. New OEM pads, new front rotors, brake fluid flush, labor, taxes all included on my sport sedan with the big brakes. So $700 is about 200% more than my neighborhood.

You have to take other things into account when asking yourself if $170 is worth it for a service B. I live in Canada and with no garage i don't feel like crawling around in the snow to do my oil changes. For the few bucks i'll save it's not worth it to me. For what it's worth service B would have cost me $380 at the dealer. Thank God for good indies =)
