So here are the codes

So i tookit to my mother in-laws new husband and he said that the following codes are showing up.

P0730- incorrect gear ratio
P0715- turbine Speed Sensor "a" circuit
P0172- SYSTEM TOO RICH BANK 1

He siad that the first one in his experience means transmission rebuild. He also said that the other two are usually linked to the first which is the worst one. I wanted to ask if there was anything that can be done to fix these issues short of the transmission rebuild. I was hoping at minimum to fix these issues temporarily so that I can take the car in to carmax and trade it in. Any help will be GREATLY appreciated.

P0715 = Input/Turbine Speed Sensor Circuit Malfunction
P0730 = Incorrect Gear Ratio
P0172 = System too Rich (Bank 1)

The system too rich could be anything from a dirty MAF to O2 upstream sensor to dirty air cleaner. I would clean the MAF first. Hope you don't need a new MAF. Use CRC MAF cleaner.

PO715 & 730 are not good news. The box is likely slipping giving conflicting/implausible input from the input shaft speed sensor to the ouput shaft speed sensor.

However - you fortunately have the 722.6 5 speed where you can work on the transmission valve body unlike the 722.9 7 speed.

You need to get the car to a good transmission shop.

- they need to pull the pan off & check the filter for clogging & the oilways/cooler circuit for wear debris & replace/clean etc.
- they need to check the speed sensors.
- they need to check the conductor plate - It might be toast.

You might get lucky with a new filter & clean fluid & a clean up if things are just fouled up - when last was the tranny serviced? s/b done every 39K miles.

The next likelyhood is a new conductor plate & maybe speed sensor.

Worse case scenario is a full tranny rebuild. You won't know until you drop the pan.

Go & talk to a good tranny shop.
Good luck!
