Engine Cover - M271
So, when I purchased my 2005 C230K from the dealership, a deal was made to replace the top engine cover. As you can see in the second picture, there is a big hole from what I imagine is some tool left on top that crushed the plastic when the hood was closed.
The first picture is the "replacement" cover... obviously differant. Any one know why? I'm partial to the one with the silver Mercedes Benz name on it, as opposed to the star... but then again, it is nice.
What are your thoughts?

that hole was made from trying to remove the cover and the pin was stuck in the head - a common problem with this car. My cover broke exactly the same way in a similar shape when I tried to remove it to replace the plugs. I was able to glue the pieces back with a special epoxy and you can see my results if you do a search

I don't have the new one, physically in my hands... it'll be here on Friday. Do you know if it will come with the foam piece that crumbled to pieces in my hand from the old one?

stealership originally told me $132, but then the service guy said $85?
I'm getting it free, as part of my negotiations on the car... plus, since I voiced my displeasure, they are also throwing in the little plastic piece of motor cover in the very front... fo free!

I got the same engine cover when the dealer broke mine while doing the cam solenoid fix. I got some chrome striping tape and added it to the top of each fin to enhance its appearance. Now it looks much better.

The foam is included. The pegs on the new cover, however, are different. Make sure the dealer also orders the replacement rubber cups and metal clips for the valve cover in order to fit the new engine cover.

Part numbers??
Anyone have a part number for the rubber cups?? Mine are not flexible anymore, causing the pegs of the engine cover to break. I got the new engine cover, but don't want to use these cups and clips in fear of breaking my new $80 cover...
The rubber cup has 9635052180 on it. When googled, it brings up russian pages and the only English stuff I can find looks like a Renault part number, but no real description or picture of the part.

The part circled in red is apart of the entire valve cover: Part# 2710101030
The cracked plastic cover w/ MB silver logo is the Engine Beauty Cover: Part# 2710100867
Note: It is possible to find these cheaper elsewhere or used, but the hyperlinked P/N are of accurate description/pictures.

As you can see from my earlier post when I was a newbie, I had some trouble finding myself. www.ecstuning.com is a great site to view/verify specific parts and fitment. They're a little expensive, but their part numbers and information are spot-on.
