Took these pics New Years Day 2012 after a balmy 50 degrees in the mountains of PA. Have a laundry list of items to take care of this year. Brake Flush(Never done), Tranny flush(Never done), Oil change, Poly V-Belt(Never changed). Can't think of more mechanicals at this moment. Still runs good for a car 6 years old. Bought Hankook Ventus12 in the fall of 2011. Grips the road pretty well up here for a rear wheel drive. Scratches and dings are fairly visible. Want to clean those up. I want a painted trunk and roof spoiler. A CF lip for the front would be nice. Nice set of rims. Everything is stock, haven't changed since i bought it new. As glyn said all post 96 cars here have obd2. Its right beside your hood latch on your dash, a little flip down door. That's how they do inspections now on post 96 cars, by attaching the diagnostic reader to it to see if your o2, egr, and other sensors are working. Also its where you plug in to get CELs read.

Back from the shop-what a bargain!!

Auto Pan Gasket-10.95
Auto Tranny Filter-15.95
12 bottles of tranny fluid-76.38 including shipping and taxes
charged me 180.00 for 2 hrs of work=283.28 total
Stealers were giving me 350 or higher so I feel good
My indy only used half of the tranny fluid. The oil was black as hell but it's done now
Installed new engine Poly V -ordered for 36.95, 87 labor=123.95
Stealers charge-205
I think next time I am going to throw the engine belt on myself. I watched him do it and it seems simple. Oh well. Live and learn

BTW, my indy in Rockaway, NJ kicks butt. Not the cheapest guy but very knowledgeable about Benzes. Worked for dealers for 22 years. Highly recommend him.

Tranny fluid
Last month I had my fluid drain, fill. He only replaced 5 quarts. At the next 39k interval should I do a full flush or just replace fluids again? I am going in this weekend for oil change, brake flush, and put in a low beam bulb. Wanted to talk to thim about that when I see him.

Actually I wouldn't flush, just drain the pan AND the torque converter. That will get pretty much all the old fluid out, and not have to screw around with flushing. The shop you had it done at SHOULD have drained the converter as recommended by MB. Check the 7G transmission service thread I posted.

Not possible to change the torque converter fluid unless a flush is done. Its easy enough to flush though. Look for a writeup but the gist of it is take the trans cooling line off the radiator and drain from there. Topping up everytime 1-2 liters of fluid come out.

Yes it IS possible on 7G equipped cars, and is required by MB WIS when doing a transmission service. Read the 7G transmission service thread. I and a few others have posted about draining the converter.

I'd suggest a couple of things:
1) Remove Benzel Busch tag on the rear. +3 hp
2) Look into a tune - compare the usual suspects here, go with the best one for your application (you'll probably have to send in the ECU)
3) Get lightweight summer rims, and throw real summer tires on. Leave the OEM rims for winter, and slap on some winter tires in October.
4) Look into swapping out the drop-in air filter and exhaust. Neither will probably net you much hp, but claims are all over the place. At least the sound will be better, if you're looking for that.
5) Come to the NJ meet in Edison on April 14th. You'll get some pointers, ideas from others, and see what other people have done to their cars. Added benefit: you'll get to sample my mad bbq skills - doesn't get any better than that!

Not taking any chances. Still can't plant jack. Air filter and exhaust? I can add that to my list. BBQ in April? I'll see. Pencil me in on that and give me particulars.
