2005 C240
several questions from new MB owner
I purchased a 2005 C240 with 42,000 miles on the clock from a friend who inherited the car from his grandmother. He gave me a great price so now am in learning mode since I have never owned a Merc'. I have enjoyed this site for 3 weeks and have learned a ton about my car. Search function has helped with most questions, but I still have a few unsolved:
When I turn the front defroster on the fan ramps up to full speed and stays there until I turn the defrost off. Is this normal?
When the dash is set to the radio station setting i cannot get to the next preset station using the left side arrow buttons. It just moves me to the next station found regardless of being in FM mode or AS mode.
The transmission threads are interesting. Glad I have the 722.6. I have no worries of doing the service myself but have not determined at what mileage I should perform the service? I already have a dipstick on the way.
Speaking of dip stick: I have the oil dipstick tube with the black plug, but I have not found an engine oil dipstick online. Any help sourcing one? I like to see and better yet smell the oil at various times in its life.
I spend a fair amount of time on the Corvette Forum with great guys and you folks seem very knowledgeable and friendly as well.
I will post some pictures when the snow melts. Car is flawless and original.

Out Of Control!!
On the radio thing, I believe that you can set it to simply scan or go to the next preset via the "settings" on the MFD. Of course, you could always change the presets by hitting them on the radio itself, you know.
I believe it's a dealer "measurement tool" (the oil dipstick). I've never seen anyone post that they ordered it online. Do another search to see if you can dig up anything. Otherwise, I believe it's a fairly expensive thing to get at the dealership.
Don't have a slushbox, so someone else will have to answer.
Congrats on the purchase, and don't worry about engine mods - the 240 doesn't really have any. Don't let that stop you from getting performance mods, though - I'd start with thicker sway bars.

Congrats on your new car!
The front defroster/defogger will blow full blast until you switch it off - something that I never understood ... safety reasons I think. My manual says to turn it off after it is clear and turn on the AC to lower the humidity. I keep the climate setting on auto and turn on the AC when raining and cold ...

You can purchase the "dipstick measure tool" or other specialty tools from baumtools.com or toolsource.com or try Ebay. I purchased both the engine & transmission measure tools from Baum Tools. They were great to deal with. Good luck.

Op, congrats on the new car. Please post if you're able to find the actual oil dipstick. I know some members have had trouble sourcing one in the past.

Big difference...
I remember my C240. I wouldnt go farther than 1.intake 2. exhaust 3. Tune (preferrably eurocharged). There isnt much potential that is worth the money.
Congrats on the car and post pictures!

Congrats on the purchase. Very nice miles for the year.
Time to do all kinds of preventive maintenance before thinking about anything else. The more you can do yourself, the better you are off.
And unless you don't have an OBDII scanner yet, you might as well buy one now. You'll eventually need it, for sure.
