Ok this might be a really stupid question. But I just dont know. So, I went to the muffler shop to see about getting a new muffler. Wanted a little bit of a deeper louder sound. The guy told me one way I could get that sound with out having to cut my bumper for a new muffler was by removing the pre-muffler. Is what he calls a pre-muffler the same thing everyone here is calling a resonator? I dont think he was much of a Benz guy so maybe he didnt know the exact terminology, but are they the same thing? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I had a similar question.... I have an 07 230 ss. The exhaust shop said the best thing to do is a straight pipe from the resonator back. (basically a muffler delete) Does anyone think that'll be a problem with the police in los angeles? How loud is it gonna be? I want loud, but not wake the Jones' next door loud. lol

I don't usually post but I guess I can contribute now lol, I cut my bumper and welded a cutsom quad setup...its loud lol I've had it for 3 or so years in la never been pulled over for it and I drive my car pretty hard. U lose a bit of Lo end torque but gain a bit on hi rpm range if anyone is interested ill post a sound clip

I was thinking someone would ask that lol, no prob ill snap a few shots of that but basically right after the resonant its splits into a Y drivers side runs more or less straight passenger side curves around the spare tire holder and exits the bumper. The shop used a small air powered saws all to cut the bumper....after the made a template and measured twice

Cutting the bumper is great if you're going for quads.
If you're sticking with single exhaust, just get the c32 AMG muffler. I have that with deleted resonator and secondary cats and it is definitely loud and sounds great. Has a nice deep sound and when I gun it, it doesn't sound raspy or ricey at all.
