this is bs now
everytime i fix something...more and more and more problems occur
now everytime i move the steering wheel back and forth i get a knocking noise from the driver side tie rods....
my alignment place checked the tie rods twice and myself checked the tie rods and both were fine
which leads me and the alignment place to believe its the rack....i always check the ps fluid didnt go down
steering wheel is very hard to turn...
thanks in advance

You have to take the whole rack out. Extract them & press in new ones. Most people fit a recon rack. Much easier.
You need to diagnose this properly. Climb under the car while someone turns the steering & listen. Check that rack bolts are tight. Trace the noise properly!

So you get the noise from the tie rod where it goes into the rack with a rubber boot?

This sounds like the same problem I am having with my car. I understand your frustrations ... I've been fixing this car over the entire 2011 year! Keep me posted as I am also getting a knock whenever I turn the wheel from left to right after backing out of my driveway.

My rack bushings did not cause any knock noise. They cause a "pop" noise, sometimes a series of them. Spraying them with silicone more than a year ago was all it took for me.

Matt - I'm talking about the Phosphor Bronze bushes in the rack under the rack boots. You can't get to them without pulling & replacing the boots.
See yellow circles. Sammy has to clearly establish where the noise is coming from.

I have a similar clunk that is not coming from the tie rods, its from the centre of the car. I had suspected tie rods initially, yet got under the car and checked the play in all 4, they are not making the clunk - it is clearly coming from the rack.
Glynn, I don't feel like replacing the rack on a 10yo 200K kms car, how bad would it be to ignore the rack bushings? I assume these are bushings that connect the rack to the car.

Sammy - Take off the cover plate - Bolt 130 goes through those mounting bushes on the back of the rack housing. Make sure it's not them.
Otherwise you must replace item 30 & check the rack housing.

Glyn, could it not be the inner tie rods? Part 30? that is causing the clunking.
I get a clunk or click felt when I turn the steering wheel only when it is sitting over night and it is below -10c, it ends up going away after the car comes up to temperature ~ 10 km of driving. I am sure you have rarely felt what it is like when it is < -10
