Rattle Rattle Rattle from 'ashtray'
I took my w203 on that 700km (there and back) road trip. First time in the country on such a long trip. One thing that irritated me (the roads on the country are not as smooth as in the metro area) was a rattling sound. I found it after a lot of trial and error it was the 'ashtray' like compartment under the aircon controls. If I applied pressure to it, it stopped rattling.
Is there a quick-fix cure for this? Its not a big deal, I dont often drive in the country, but maybe there is a quick fix like jamming something in one of the corners. I actually found a business car jammed in there, must have been from previous owner, but it did nothing about the rattle. The card may just have been put there by mistake.
PS
I WILL post roadtrip photos!

I had the same problem. Just get some of that thin sponge like material that comes as protection material with computers etc., and place it underneath the ashtray. It had to be a very thin layer for the top cover to be able to lock.

There is a Squeak & Rattle thread in the stickies. All sorts of ideas.
