Is there a way to check timing chain with tearing engine apart?
I little history on the car. In 2015 I drive it from Washington to Texas for work relocation. Drove it in Texas for maybe 6 months before I sold it. Never had any issues with the timing chain, or engine. Although, I think the car may be in the bottom of a lake somewhere. Turns out, the person I sold it to didn't register it, and shot someone in the car. The police found a piece of the broken glass that had code/ID on it, and used those numbers to trace it back to me. Fortunately I still had proof of the sale, and showed that I had reported the sale to the state. I was able to help DPS in the investigation, but not sure what the outcome was.
It was a great car. If anyone has any questions about the timing chain job, I can try to answer as best I can.
Got the INA 551 0187 10, need torque specs, exact steps, and any “don’t do this” tips.
No WIS, so real-world advice appreciated!
Thanks!
is there a diy or step by step somewhere ?
Take generator out, remove tensioner, new in (preloaded), 40 Nm
I need clarification on the correct installation method for the timing chain tensioner on my M271.940.
Car: 2006 C200 Kompressor (M271.940)
Engine no.: 271940 30 739130
VIN: WDB2037422A888888
I replaced the tensioner with an INA 551 0187 10.
The old tensioner (from a 2023 timing job in Poland) had an aluminium sealing washer fitted.
Before I reinstall it properly, I need to confirm:
• Should the INA tensioner be installed metal‑to‑metal into the tensioner bracket?
• Or does this engine variant still require an aluminium sealing washer?
I’ve emailed Mercedes and INA for confirmation, but I’d appreciate input from anyone familiar with the M271 tensioner/bracket revisions.
Thanks rb
