service documentation

When the dealer service your car, are they supposed to fill in the details of what they did in the little service booklet that came with the manual? I took my car in for Service A a couple of weeks ago, and they didnt fill anything in the service booklet.

Thanks.

Go back and have them do it. That can be important to have if you try to sell your car.

When I went in for "A" service a couple weeks ago I left the service booklet on the passenger seat and asked the service advisor to have it filled out. It still didn't get done. I still have the service report in case there is an issue when I sell the car.

I just got the computer printout, too. Is that just as good a record in terms of service history for the car when I sell it in the future?

Yes. I keep all my service receipts, recall notices, insurance statements and anything else I get from MB in a 3 ring binder.

In the pocket I have the original sales literature for my 2002 along with the original sticker.

When I sell it in seven years, the prospective new owner will marvel over being able to look at the sticker (and compare to the price he's paying now) and the fact that I kept such meticulous records and performed all maintenance on time.

Of course, in nine years my daughter will be 16 and I think this would be a very sweet ride for her, maybe I'll keep it....

I always keep the service-reciepts. Last service I forgot to put the service-booklet on the passenger seat, but I went back to the dealer to get it signed and stamped.

At least in Sweden, it's very important to have a correct signed and stamped service-booklet - very difficult to sell the car without it.
