Fuel System problems

I have a 2003 C240. I'm not getting any fuel to the fuel rail. I have replaced the Fuel pump, the filter and the MAF. The car started and did ok it had a little bit of a delay when you stepped on the gas. Other then that it worked pretty good. About a month later the car died out on me. No fuel to the fuel rail.
The only thing I haven replaced at this time is the sending unit on the drivers side. I sure hate to spend $500 if there is no way in heck this could be the problem.

Any ideas?

Oh a side question. There is a hose/pipe that sits behind and to the right of the MAF. What the heck is this? It almost looks like some sort of PCV but I don't think it is.

thanks for any pointers or advice

I think you have suffered another pump failure.

GLYN,

You don't think it could be the sending unit?

No. All the sender unit does is drive your fuel gauge.

Glyn,
You were right on the money! I took the fuel pump out and inspected it. I noticed the screen had turned from white to black. I also noticed some deposits. I cleaned the screen, removed the small deposits let the them dry. Reinstalled them and BLAM! The car started right up and took off. A little hesitation when I first step on the gas, but it goes. Oh another observation was the gas in the fuel pump was a dark gray.

Question now is: Any idea on what the deposits were? What could be causing this? I only use premium gas, but I do go to where the cheapest fuel prices are. Maybe bad or low quality gas?
