Well, a lot of automatic cars would downshift automatically to increase brake force during emergency braking.

Is that available on my car? the 2002 c coupe? (or any other mb car?)

It automatically uses max braking force during a panic stop unless you let up on the pedal. Not sure about the downshift as I have a stick!

it downshifts during regular braking too, but most people don't notice this as the shifts occur around 1000 rpm.

yeah I know about that... but not if you brake really hard on high speed, I guess.

I was driving fast and recklessly once, and when I came to a traffic light I had to brake hard. Not panic braking, but I did really brake hard.

The car stopped but the engine kept going… the RPM was high and the engine was making loud noise like if I was still driving!

Never happened to me such a thing. I don’t remember exactly what I did, I think I shifted to neutral and then after a while the engine clamed down.

well, how fast were you going then?

i've done a full panic stop from 90, and the tach needle dropped without hesitation. unless the edge of your foot was getting the gas pedal too, there might be something wrong with the car.
