I tried what Matt said... didn't work!
well... this morning I tried it... Once it reached the red area it shifted gears like if it was on auto. it didn't enter the red area.
It kept shifting till it reached third gear I think.
so?
If you wanted to hit redline and get faster shifts, you should have gotten the manny.
You shouldn't be going into the redline. Up to is ok, beyond really ins't. Not sure about the gearing with the Auto, but with the manny, our peak rpm curve ends just before redline, literally just before it, so you should be shifting around 5700 or 5800 rpm if you can anyway.

the big wide power band that most MB's have.

I played with this sorta thing just today on the way back from Michigan. The best acceleration was from having the gears shifted down and then letting the car upshift when it needed (about 6000 rpm).
It was almost as fast when starting from D, but the tranny tended to want to upshift a bit too soon even when the accelerator was mashed down.
... wife said that i don't need to go 95 to merge with traffic, but i had to play it safe ...
Hmmm, you don't drive the 2003 1.8L, I see.
There's no need to go past redline because you start to fall out of the power band. It's best to just shift and get back into the big wide power band that most MB's have.
Ok I read you other post so you have a C200k and want to put 18” rims you can kiss what ever power you have after the rims. Your car is probably going to be as slow as a snail.
And some personal experience with my car it has 215 HP and 290 pounds of torque. The redline is at 6k. Most of my power is at the low rpm if I rev the engine higher than 5k it doesn’t get more power it slows me down. My sisters car the redline is at 7k rpm the pick power on the car is at 4K rpm and the power drops off at 6K
