Help.. Car Rattles when I reverse.
Help.. my Car Rattles when I reverse. I did a quick search some people say it could be a tranny mount or the exhaust. It usually rattles on reverse during a cold start in the morning. The rattle comes from the middle of the car and the exhaust area...
I read on another forum that it could be the alternator pulley? Could there be another reason why it's rattling? it doesnt rattle when i drive only reverse it rattles.
Could it be that my tranny is due for some new tranny fluid change?

It's possible that it could be tranny and engine mount, but you should also feel it if you are in drive as well, like when you taking off.

I get a rattle as well when I go in reverse. It's small, but noticeable. To me it sounds like the exhaust, but it's strange that it only does it in reverse...

Cats will rattle if a piece of honeycomb gets broken off and is trapped inside. Not sure why it would only be in reverse.. can you make a recording?
I've had broken engine and transmission mounts, never any rattling.

I had the same issue and oddly, it appeared that I had hit some debris on the Interstate that had bent the exhaust pipe just enough that the down turn behind the engine barely touched something when the car was in reverse and everything shifted.
With it up on the lift, we (OK, honestly..the mechanic) loosed the exhaust up from the down pipe to the section after the cats, which helped let everything move back in place. A few whacks with a BFW helped get everything a bit closer to right. Tightened it up and no more rattle.

Me too, and it has been happening for quite some time.
It only sounds when I put the car in reverse and it's louder when I have my foot on the brake. Bizarre.

Did you check the heat shields and the cat(s)? If it's been happening for a while, ignoring looking into the problem probably won't fix it.
