I doubt it 'explored' probably sparked a small fire that turned into a much larger one.

+1 something in that nature, I don't think a GPS so small exploding alone could cause so much damage

The only thing that can explode in a GPS is the battery.

Around where I work - if you leave it on the dash, it won't BE there long enough to explode, or catch fire. I guess our citizens are doing everyone a favor by having them suffer "only" a broken window as opposed to this!!!

(Seriously - we get people all the time that just can't understand why they come back out to their car and the window is broken, etc!!! Big PIA!!)

That's crazy, I have mine on my windshield at the bottom corner by the driver side I have it mounted 24/7 and never had anyone break in and I park in the most random places sometimes sketchy. I always here about these horror stories.

Well, I have to admit, at work I only hear about the ones that get taken, so I can't give an honest comparison on how frequently it happens. But it is often enough to be an issue for us. But lately they have been taking the whole damn car!

Yeah I second the possibility of the battery catching fire due to too much heat. Look at the pictures see how everything is melted below and above.. definitely didn't "explode" but was a smoldering heat blob. Yay to built in GPS and not using 3rd party stuff. =)
