New to the Board - Props to all the Contributors
New to the board and i just wanted to acknowledge everyone that has contributed to the board. There is a lot of good info on this board which i think i can definitely benefit from.
Bought the wife a 2005 C230 a few months ago. Found out about 90 dollar oil changes from the dealer (was not happy) and 1500 dollar radio replacements (to get aux input) because of the "fiber optics" in the system. More expensive than i was expecting.
Was wondering where everyone buys there parts from. I saw mymercedesparts.com, but was looking for other sites also.
I know i need the vacuum pump replacement (which i read some great posts on), but i haven't see any posts about brake replacements. Any knowledge of any "special" requirements. Looks like i have high performance rotors (drilled holes i guess). I have worked on previous cars before (altenator, disc brakes, rotors, starters, tune-ups, hoses, shocks/struts, etc), so i'm hoping it won't be much different. I guess my real question is are there any posts specific to the c230 for tune-ups and brakes? Don't wanna pay 700+ for a tune-up if i can get some good info here and used some elbow grease myself. Apologies to the moderators of the board if i am requesting info that is already on the board, but i did search and didn't find what i was looking for already posted. Thanks to all for any feedback.

Your C230 should be pre-wired for an aux input, I've never heard of $1500..
$90 oil changes are a bit higher than a Toyota, sure, but you only need one per year or 13,000 miles so ultimately it is cheaper.
What is a tune-up? I mean I know what it was in the 80s. The brakes will be expensive if you go to the dealer, you should source the parts online and do it yourself or have an indy do it. There are a million threads on it, but a good place to get parts is RMEuropean.com - makes sure the rotors you buy are coded 949 Sport package.
Replace the spark plugs is a good idea but the old "tune-up" stuff is really not needed. How many miles has she got? And how many miles on the C230? I jest..

Welcome! LILBENZ230 hit a lot of the high points. You can save a lot of money by doing some things yourself. You should invest in a MityVac () for oil changes since oil drain plugs just aren't touched on an MB - actually, it is the approved (by the dealer) method, you would need to take off the under panels (a pain), and you'd have to crawl under the car.
Brake maintenance is pretty much the same as you're probably used to. Akebono ceramic pads are popular (very little dust) as are MB OEM (much more dust, good bite). Be sure you get approved brake fluid and flush periodically. The auto tranny also requires regular flushing (many posts on this).
As LILBENZ230 said, there isn't a need for a "tune up" per se. It's all done by computer. You should make sure all the recall campaigns have been applied to your car. There is a nasty problem with oil leaking from the cam sensors into your wire loom that is very expensive. It's covered by a recall so make sure you have that one.
Mobil 1 0w40 is the most popular oil here.
Relax and enjoy your new ride (or rather let your wife relax and enjoy her new ride! )! Let us know if you have any questions!
