Time to change fuel pump? Orrrrr ?
SO I had to take my car off the road this month. I'm pretty sure I'm going to send into a mechanic eventually .
The reason my car came of the road was because I needed to pass inspection but everytime I go. They plug a scanner in my car and check the readiness monitors and CAT & O2 are blinking, indicating they're not ready.
My car also has this issue where when I drive for about an hour and an half it starts to bog and just shut off on me. And it won't start up again for a few hours. It all started when my car ran out of gas one time. I'm guessing maybe I messed up my fuel pump perhaps. What do you guys think?

My fuel pump went about 2 weeks ago. I was getting gas, and car simply would not re-start. No warning, nothing. Jump start did not work. Fuel pump was gone. Sadly, it was about $1250.00 to fix at the dealer, but that did include the fee road side assistance (always use that if you can). lol.
Apart from the technician screwing up the fuel gauge system, it seems okay. They will fix the fuel gauge for no charge...lol.

Actually if you find yourself in that situation the worst thing you can do is use Mercedes roadside. They will tow it free straight to the dealer where you will proceed to pay DEARLY.
Best to eat the tow and tow it to a mechanic who won't rape you.

Easy way to check if your fuel pump is working..
Lift up your hood and look at the engine bay on the top right side *driver side* You will see a silver hose *braided stainless hose* Get a correct size wrench and unscrew that. WARNING: FLAMMABLE FUEL WILL DRIP OUT SO GET A TOWEL TO CATCH IT.
Next get a friend or someone you trust to start the car while you stand at the hose. If fuel comes out the end of the hose when your trusted friend tries to start it, then the fuel pump is working. *Sometime you can lift up the trunk and hear the hssing noise and that will indicate if the fuel pump is on or not. If the fuel doesn't pump out the hose then your fuel pump is dead. If that being the case... check connections to the pump at the bottom of the car, hoses and check your fuses.. if that all checks to be good, then its time for a new fuel pump and throw in a new fuel filter while your at it.
*Fuel Filter is located near the back of the passenger side trans axle. Fuel Filter is easy to replace just you got to get under the car and remove the 3 screws that holds the shield and the rest is easy once you look at it, its held by clamps and a bracket. Good LUck.
Fuel Delivery Unit With Level Sensor: A 203 470 23 94
Fuel Filter : A 203 477 30 01
**If gauges for some odd reason still don't work, there is a service compartment located on driver side..
the part for that is Mount Plate with Level Sensor: A 203 470 17 41

There is a Schrader valve on the fuel rail connecting the injectors (Like a car tyre valve). No need to undo pipes. Check the pressure there ~ s/b >3.8bar or 55 psi while cranking.

Mounting Plate
My fuel pump was just replaced @ 257,087 miles. The dealer job included a mounting plate for $455.00? The complete job was $1149.28. Any idea what a mounting plate is and why its so expensive? The job included delivery unit, mounting plate, fuel filter, 3 loom ties, hose clamp, 2 seal rings and 1 relay.

Its the sending unit so not a mounting plate.
The tank has two sides one has the pump/sending unit and then the other side has just a sending unit. The computer adds both together to figure out the level.
Some say you can replace one side and not have issues while others have tried that and had to buy the other to get the fuel gauge working properly.

Mounting Plate/Sending Unit
Interesting nomenclature. How a fuel level sending unit became a "mounting plate" in MBZ's parts system is mysterious. I've never had a problem with the accuracy of my fuel gauge. It's been consistently accurate for 13 years/257,000 miles. Thanks for the info.
