W203 - 270CDi - Automatic Gearbox ECU / TCU Problem
Hi. I'm having problems with my car gearbox. Other day it got into "safe mode", only with 2nd gear and no change in the display when selected + or - (always showing D). I stoped the car, restarted and everything back to normal. Taking to a garage they told me, after a payed star diagnosis and an attempt of reset the TCU, that was the TCU with problem and that I need a new one. (BTW: without printed relatory and made "as a favor" but I payed £40 to receive a verbal diagnosis).
Seeking for a "new" I found 2 options on eBay, but there is a situation here:
My car uses the Siemens TCU "A 025 545 05 32 EGS51 Q03". (first picture).
The TCU's found in eBay are with number "A 025 545 05 32 EGS51 Q02". One is told be from a E Class W210 320 CDi, and the other from a S Class W220 320 CDi. (2nd picture)
My question is: These TCU are compatible with my car / gearbox? Should I buy or wait?
The problem have happened again yesterday (in a situation where I was accelerating hard, getting in the flow of the road from a parallel road), so I[ve fear of be driving and the car just stop...
Hopping your help.
Best Regards

First check the electrohydraulic pilot bush for oil leaks. ( Where TCU harness plugs into the transmission)
If you buy a new TCU for the 722.6 transmission try & get 2003 or newer. They can have software reflashed. Older models can't.

3 questions,.... first: How did "the car just stop..."? Were there any malfunction visit workshop warnings on the instrument cluster? Did the front radiator (cooling) fan start spinning in high mode like a turbine engine?
Second question,... how often do you get your transmission oil changed? Partial or full? When was the last time? How many km ago?
Third question,.... did anyone including you actually check the TCU? Is there any oil near the TCU? If so, did you try spraying it with an electronic cleaner like CRC QD Electronic Cleaner? I suggest you try that first before buying a new TCU.
