wheel stretch?

Long story short. Had an OEM AMG style front bumper installed. Shop made some error. Now, when front wheels turn, the tire is rubbing on the front of the wheel well slightly.

Meanwhile, I had just ordered new wheels:
http://www.victoriatire.com/wheel_OE...8TPMS%29_18_18

So.....the recommended tire size for these is 225-40-18.

Would "stretching" the tires possibly leave more room between the tire and wheel well and solve my problem, theoretically?

Would it be smarter to switch to get 220-40-18 or 225-35-18?

I would rather not get the bumper adjusted so please spare me those comments.

Thanks!

Is it rubbing to the point that you can hear it loudly or is it a very minor rub? What kind of mark is it leaving? Is it rubbing on the plastic part? or the metal?

why dont you just remove the wheel and push the wheel well in more. adjusting the bumper shouldnt be required. Plus you're not really stretching the tires, youre getting shorter sidewalls. stretching is getting a smaller width tire like getting 215 instead of 225.

minor rub i assume...on the plastic. cant hear it. its only when i turn the wheel. it leaves a visible dirt mark.

i tried to push in the wheel well but doesnt seem to have any room left to move. i can try again. :]

so 225/35/18?

thanks guys.

If the tyre is touching the wheel arch shroud just reshape the shroud with a hot air gun & a baseball bat.

Don't stretch tyres. It is a very bad practice & compromises safety.

Hi glyn. I agree. I contemplated heating it but when I looked I don't think there's any more clearance to push it in. I just wanted to figure out ways to make the overall diameter of my tire smaller to attempt to avoid the rubbing.

The rubbing your having sounds very minor, I had the same problem and just heated up with a heat gun and pushed in and was good. When you tried heating it did you use a blow dryer or heat gun?

Lol I usually use a blow torch. I didn't try it yet. All I did was look behind that panel and looks like te windshield fluid reservoir is right behind it. So there doesn't seem like there's any room to push the wall back
