2003 C230 Sports Sedan
Unhappy Check Engine Light Came on!

I have a 2003 C230 sport sedan with 3,200 miles on it and last Thursday the check engine light comes on and the car goes in to "limp mode". I just left my house and it happened about 5 blocks away I was going up a hill at about 40mph and once I reached the top it happened. I pull over and turn off the car and restart and the check engine light is still on and I have very little power, so I drive home and call Merecedes customer service and they send a tow truck the next morning. They keep the car over the weekend and today I talked to the tech and he tells me there was two fault messages. 1) problem with alternator, 2) misfire in the number 2 cylinder. To top things off he does not know what is wrong with my car, he can't figure it out!!! Did anybody ever experience these problems? What do you think is wrong with my car? Thanks for your help.

Sounds very familiar, I have a 2003 C230K Sport Sedan with just over 3000 miles. Two weeks ago, my check engine light came on while interstate driving. The engine started running very rough, was able to get the car home in "limp" mode. Called dealership, technician asked me to restart my car. Engine ran as smooth as usual. Dealership could not find anything wrong. Later that same day, same thing happened, check engine light and rough running engine. As soon as I restarted the engine, the roughness went away. Back to the dealership, once again, no indication of origin of problem. Technician turned up the idle based on the only tech bulletin they had for rough running engine. Picked the car back up last Monday and it has run fine ever since.
I am hoping these were isolated incidences, but it sounds as if I'm not the only one experiencing this. Please post if you get any more information from your dealer.

My 2003 coupe has been having idle fluctuations for a couple of weeks, I was going to take it to the dealers this Friday.
Got a check engine light, and the engine was shaking real rough. Checked the water temp and got off the freeway. Shut off the engine and checked the oil. I was able to limp home OK. This was at 4600 miles.

Took the car into Fletcher Jones today, no apointment just showed up first thing. They treated me very well, came back with a missfire code, P201A
Of course they could not get the same rough idle but did find the fuel pump amps going from 7.34 amps to 10.74 amps.
After they replaced the fuel pump they re-checked the amps, stayed 6.85 to 7.11.

Drove home OK for now

Tell them to check the coolant temperature sensor.
