Hi All,

I have never owned a mercedes and would like to get your expert opinion, if you could guide me if in case you think I am making any mistake :

There is a car that I like - 2005 Mercedes-Benz C240 Luxury

Engine: 2.6L V6 Transmission: Automatic 5-Speed Body Style: Sedan Color: Brilliant Silver Metallic Interior: Ash w/Leather Seat Trim Miles : 85,163

MPG: 25/19 Hwy/City It did look very clean and the engine was not making much of noise (but I dont have much idea on that either)
All wheel drive 6 Cylinder Luxury Sedan with a Clean Carfax and it says its Technician inspected (and all the other technical details).
He is asking for about 12.8 K which is close to the kbb value.

Could you please help me with this decision - any reason I should not buy and I could look for to be sure its a good car and that I dont regret this decision?

Thanks for your help - I look forward to your replies

I personally own a 2002 C240 since new... now it has around 190k KM on it... no major issues whatsoever.

check this thread, lots of good things about the C240 (longevity, reliability, etc...) though its a little slow.

Excellent cars! I've just sold mine after 8 years of ownership from new. Only repairs under warranty - 2 X castor bushes - known problem & redesigned. One 5 cent transmission plug washer & One brake light bulb.

Perfect! Thank you all for the replies and link. It was helpful -

I would not be getting any warranty (or certificate) from the dealer - its a pre-owned car. If possible, could you guide me on how much the regular expenses on the car would be like oil change , health check (cost)?

1. Basically, want to have an estimate of how much I should plan on spending on maintaining the car if needed - so that I could understand if I can afford it.

2. And what would be the depreciation of the car value be in 2 years - if I think of selling it. I dont drive much and do not intend to go on excessive long drive : so should be avg amount of driving.

1. regular servicing is not too bad if you find an independent mechanic (7 L/qt of Mobil 1 0W-40 oil and filter is around $85 in parts alone) dealer is way more for their service A or service B ($250-350) which are just glorified oil changes with lots of checks.

I've had no major issues so far, so really if the service records indicate everything has been done before you should just be really doing general service. Check if you've had spark plugs, fuel filter, engine air filters replaced already. And check if the transmissions has ever been serviced as well...
If not you need to probably do those... Mann engine air filter on ebay is around $40 in parts .... fuel filter is not too expensive I think I paid like $200-250 installed... spark plugs it takes 12 I believe so around $100 in parts alone...

I recently had my transmission serviced at the dealer for $300

Other than that... not bad at all to maintain ... just your usual brakes and tires as well.

2. Honestly for depreciation it will go down a bit, but in two years it's not going to be too drastic since its lost most of its value. I would just buy it and keep it as a beater until it dies :P

Also, 2005 is a better year compared to the early ones that had a radiator that was prone to leaking into transmission and costing big $$$$$ repairs. so you should be safe
