AC Compressor for 2003 C230 Coupe?

AC Compressor for 2003 C230 Coupe?
Hello,

I live in Toronto, Canada and my AC Compressor needs to be replaced as per the dealer. They quoted $1500 for a new one and a mechanic said $900 for a rebuilt one. I have been looking online and have come across parts dealers and have seen OEM and non-OEM compressors for AC for less.

Does anyone have experience buying these types of parts? Good? Bad? Is there a site you would recommend? I found this link:

The car is 9 years old and I don't want to spend more than I have to, to fix the AC and drive the car longer.

Is this quote for the compressor and install or just for the AC compressor unit?

Sorry to butt in but what would you need to do to an ac compressor before you pull it from a working vehicle?
