P0600 Check engine Light
I just got the P0600 Check engine light on.
Recently, the fan on my 02 c230 was not working, so the MB technician said he would have to rewire the fan wiring all the way to the cars computer to get it to work. So the fan started to work fine after that.
I also installed a set of HID lights.
After about a couple weeks the check engine light came on with the P0600 code. Could this code have been caused by the rewiring of the fan or installation of the HID lights?
OR is there something else I should be looking to do.

P0600 = Serial Communication Link Malfunction
Usually not a major problem & comes with other codes. Front SAM might not be happy with some of your new wiring. Check all connections to the SAM & cancel the code. More likely the CANbus connection to the SAM. Then see what happens.

No other codes came up. I took it to 2 different shops to check the code. and they both said only 1 code popped up and it was the P0600 one.
I took it back to the dealer to see if the issue was caused with them fixing the fan of my car. They said it is unrelated. but noted that my engine was running leaner then normal. And said a full diagnosis would need to be done to determine the exact problem.
Would an engine lean problem cause the P0600 to light up?

Hmm! dealers. Why are you not getting a fuel trim code if it is supposed to be running lean. They are just covering their butts. They don't know what is going on but would like an opportunity to throw parts at the problem at your expense.
Did they connect the car to Star?

I'm not sure if they did. I took it in to see if the previous service they did to my car (fixing the fan) caused the check engine light to come on. The dealer said they will look at it to see if the check engine light was caused from fixing the fan. It turned out it was not. And the check engine light was a completely different problem that would need to be fully diagnosed. I declined the work to fully diagnose the problem though until I can see if there is anything else I can do before throwing money at the dealer.
