hey everyone, so far for the past two weeks the cel came on and it was giving the code for the crank sensor got that replaced and then a week after the cel came back but it was gone after turning off the car then turning on after half an hour. i was not trying to reset it or anything as i mentioned on my post here
https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...nk-sensor.html
so i took it to the shop today cuze i thought it's the crank sensor again or cuze they never reset it after replacing the sensor but after checking it was giving 2 codes which is P0016 and P0017, i was doing some reseaches on the fourm here and i guess it's related to cam sensor or crank sensor. so what do you guys think after checking the wires and all that should i start with replacing the Camshaft Position Sensor Magnets for as i heard its a common problem? thank you

See post #239 onward here. You have the dreaded balancer shaft worn sprocket issue. Engine out.
Sorry to bring bad news!

Please read post 239 & the MB bulletin. Unfortunately when you get those two codes together it's a sure sign that you have the worn sprocket condition.
You can cancel the codes & see if they come back but I'm not very hopeful.
I would approach MBUSA and see if they will pick up some of the cost. They have helped a number of owners on this board with M272/273 engines that fall into the bad batch. They picked up the whole cost on Rudeney's car on the W209 forum but his was low mileage. You don't say what mileage is on your car.
Good luck
This is a bummer but better to know the truth ~ cancel those codes. You might get lucky.

thanks a lot for the info, i will reset the code tomorrow after replacing the Camshaft Position Sensor Magnets. the guy i know at the shop thought it would be the magnets so i got one of those replaced about 7 months ago and tomorrow we are replacing the rest for $100 on parts and labor, he order it already so i'll just have him replace it then reset the code then i'll go from there if the cel came back then i'll call MBUSA and we'll go from there but i hope it won't come back. thank you for wishing me good luck i really need it now
i'll keep you posted, thank you again

I am in the middle of the Balance shaft fix as we speak and the timing setup is NUTZ I cannot figure it out! Mitchell and alldata pictures suck! anyone have advice or better resources for timing instructions everytime i think ive got it i jump a few teeth...I think finally i've got the chain shaft crank and two intake cams timed but how the F do you set the exhaust cams? All the copper marks on chain are 100% aligned to the marks on intake cams, crank and balance shaft now what do i do with exhaust side

I have never done this job. Does this help in any way. Otherwise hopefully someone can upload the WIS method & we will place it in the Wiki.

Jerry's car has been diagnosed with worn sprocket. $7200 quote for repair.
Hoping MBUSA will help him.
