Rain X

Has anybody ever used this product? Does it help or is it just overkill?

Yes. Get some. You can apply once a year on all windows, and every few months on the windshield if you live in a rainy area like me !

This stuff is fantastic. It keeps the windshield clean and rain beads up. Others have referred to the spray on and polish product which works great but I also use the premixed Rain-X windshield washer fluid. Also fantastic.

Well, I'll be damned. I thought it was a racket, lol. Anyway, NAPA auto parts has it on sale.

It works and so does their washer fluid

The cheap way of preventing fogging is to take some antifreeze pour a bit on a paper towel or piece of newspaper and wipe your inside windows and all mirrors.

That's what many of the boys were doing at the ST Class race in the rain at Lime Rock a few weeks ago.

BTW I think Rain-x fluid - summer and winter - is the best one can get.

I don't like the MB fluid since the delivering dealer once filled up the ENTIRE tank with the concentrate without diluting it.

Driving down the road I pressed the button and I thought someone sprayed Barbasol all over the windscreen!

BTW guys, I came across this one method of applying RainX somewhere (either one of the *world forums, or somewhere else). Haven't tried it yet, but will do after I wash and clay my windshield...

Easy instructions:
Get a roll of paper towels (for convenience)
Large cup or water bottle of clear water
Clean window normally but thoroughly and let dry fully
Fold one towel in half, then half again
Squirt some Rain-X on 1/2 of windshield
Spread with folded towel, being sure to cover to edges
Do other half

Let it haze a little and repeat application
IMPORTANT! Let it haze over

Get several sections of paper towel and fold into 1/4 sheet (like application, but way thicker)
Squirt water on 1/2 of windshield starting at top
Drench it!
Dry with folded towel, then flip over to dry side and wipe same area
It'll get real slippery at this point

You may need to get some more towels - just make sure they're dry, not damp
Do other 1/2 same way

Finally, let any left over stuff haze over again, then repeat rinse steps (if needed)
Operate car in a driving rain (hmmm, I wonder why they call it that?)

I put it on twice a year. Fantastic product. Assists the wipers in keeping the windows clean in a profound manner, and as such, is probably the cheapest added safety feature you add to your car in 10 minutes a year.

Highly recommended.

As everybody says, it's great stuff! You should use your wipers less after you apply it - first, because you won't need to, and second, the wipers wear it off.

I haven't tried their windshield washer or blades yet so I don't know about them.

RainX is good but Aquapel is better IMHO. We've used it on our race cars for a few years now and I use it on my cars regularly. At the start of the rainy season I'd always make it a point to treat my windows as well as my wife's.

It is a bit pricey and I feel it lasts for about 5 months or so. But when water hits your window it really makes a difference. This and good wipers equal superiror visibility when its raining.

I think it is also comes up as " Simoniz - Glass Treatment"

Rain x will react with your wiper blade rubber and after prolong use the rubber gets stiffer faster then normal and will result in wiper chatter........

Not only are you the first negative comment. I never heard of this complaint. Has anyone had any experience explained above?

Get it. Its amazing. I live in Seattle. I get rained on ALOT. I could probably drive w/o using my wipers at all after a fresh application of rain-x.

Only caveat ive got is that if you park out side. Dirt (and whatevers) will stick to your window and roughly render your rain-x ineffective in a much shorter time period. Rain-x is great if you get to park inside, keep the dirt environment off your car, and it lasts alot longer (maybe a solid 4-5 weeks).

I went on Amazon and checked their reviews. Pretty much summed up what you said about the rubber blade. I guess that is something I will keep a watch out for. However, I am confident and will purchase this product

It is a great product. Just does not rain enough where I live. Remember not to wash your car or window at least with soap. It will remove the rainX.

Yer joking right? It would take 100 of those little bottles to fill the thing. Rain X works! I just am too lazy to use it.
It does kind of make your wipers hang a bit.

I like the MB washer fluid mixed with distilled water. ONE bottle washer fluid concentrate to one gallon distilled water.
Another cool product is
303® Windshield Wiper Treatment

I have the original blades after nearly 5 years & have used rainex since new so longivity has not been an issue for me.

That said ,it does contain alcohol which may adversly affect some rubbers over time.

No. Wipers don't last forever. I replace them every year, which means that whatever possible "interactions" with RainX might happen (doubtful) there's really not enough time for this horrible chemical mutation to occur.

I agree. I saw the same negative remark on Amazon. However, most of the reviews echo what everyone is saying on here. I will take a little extra time and apply before the weather gets cold
