Late model 772.6 trannys have no PLIL?

Just confirming -- late model 722.6 transmissions have no PLIL (Park lock interlock linkage)?

I have a 2005 c230 with I believe a 722.695. The hole in the back where the PLIL would go has a plug and a circlip in it. I assume there is nothing inside to replace here. I'm preparing to do a tranny flush but haven't dropped the pan yet. So I just want to make sure I am prepared for whatever I find inside. I would like to rule out the need to buy one of these: http://www.rmeuropean.com/Part-Numbe...3-97a2d671ee6e

For reference, here is a DIY for replacing this part on transmissions which have it: http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w163...ck-update.html

So, please confirm I have no PLIL!

Also, if anyone can reference a DIY or set of diagrams which shows how the parking pawl works on these late model 722.6s, what the change in behavior was by eliminating the PLIL, I would much appreciate the info.

Thanks. John

I've never heard of that part,... I'm not a transmission expert,... but when I did my own partial transmission change on 5speed 722.6,... I never came across that part.

Even if our 722.6 has it (which I doubt),... why would you replace it,.. unless, it is broken,... in which case you should replace it.

If you're doing partial transmission oil change,... there's a nice DIY from Install University here somewhere,.. Search.

If you're doing full transmission oil change,.... there's a nice DIY on benzworld,.... search.

Just make sure you use the correct transmission oil,... measure with dipstick at 80C,.... and do NOT let even a speck of dust, lint or hair get in the new transmission oil or pan.

Okay, using EPC-net I was able to trace which trannys have this part number. It looks like 722.600 thru 722.645 use the part, and after that it's absent from the diagram. Here are a few comparison pics:

722.600 (part 45):

722.645 (part 175):

722.695 (part is not on this diagram):

The remainder of the parking pawl assembly and gear shift lever appear to be the same. Was the PLIL only a secondary method of releasing the parking pawl that was later on eliminated due to better design of the primary release mechanism?

You want to change your tranny fluid? Don't think this is something that concerns you.
Perhaps peruse this thread
Aside from fluid, filter, and gasket, You'll want to replace the "Pilot bushing" which is just the plastic piece with orings that goes into the location where the electrical connector plugs in. The orings leak and can cause havoc. But you can't just buy the orings.
Other than that....not aware of anything else and lots of people have done the tranny flush. Just make sure you don't put the ATF in the engine like some complete
dolts around here.

It's a part that was a common cause of leakage for those trannys that had it. See the reference to the repair procedure in my first post above.

I think I feel comfortable enough now that this isn't in my car, so I won't need to buy the part.

I've read dozens of threads on both forums, and yes the adapter plug (parts #115,130 in the above diagrams) appears to be on all 722.6 trannys and is probably the most common cause of leakage. The faulty one was already replaced on my car early in life and is currently not leaking, but I may replace it again just to be safe (or at least keep a spare on hand).

Another less common source of leaking is the gear shift lever seal (#30 on all diagrams). It's a bit more difficult to replace because you have to drop the valve body, but there is a DIY available. A year ago the dealership claimed this was leaking (and wanted $1300 to replace the seal and do a tranny flush), so I'm going to buy a seal to keep on hand and check it out when I do the fluid.

Finally, there is the rear shaft seal, for which you have to remove the driveshaft ... I don't expect this is an issue in my car, however I do need to find the source of the dried fluid on the back of my transmission pan. I'm hoping it was just a poor seal of the pan gasket from the last service which was done at an Indy.

Also, aside from leaks, I'm picking up a gear shift linkage bushing and clip (where the shift rod meets the gear shift lever, #27/28 on the diagrams, clip not shown) ... they're cheap to add on to my order (rmeuropean has free shipping over $65) and replace them now or keep a spare.
