UNSURE ON THE RIGHT PAINT
For some strange reason the bonnet on my yellow coupe is a different shade of yellow to the car and I wondered if the wrong paint was used if it has a new bonnet or its just faded?
The data card says 685U YELLOWSTONE?
but the car has 685 stamped on panel and that's SUNBURST YELLOW DB685?
Are they the same ?

Different markets call the Benz colours different things. It's the code that matters when using paint from Glasurit, Spies Hecker, PPG or whoever.

685u probably refers to an old way the build cards specified paint. All three place codes ended with a u. The WIS shows "Farben alte Nummer: = 025U / MB-Nr. z.B. 0 025 nach WIS." 685 defines the color space for the paint. DB685 refers to the old name of Daimler AG which was known as Daimler-Benz AG. This keeps the formulation separate from other marques that use a 3 digit paint code.
Quite often cars damaged in transit are resprayed by a dealer, and the attention to making a fade to mask the minor differences in paint colour are skipped. If a formula other than the factory spray is used, it will quite often fade at a different rate than the original because each manufacturer closly guards the formula for the dyes and pigments used in tinting their base to match the manufacturer color swatch.
I am not sure how a car fades in the UK. My London office enjoys 300 minutes of sunshine per year.

Will find a good painter that can do my bonnet again and also the arches where the rust is showing. Just hope It doesn't cost to much

I can assure you that with the new Glasurit waterbased base coat & nano clear the match will be perfect. The other premium companies are equally good but I have found Glasurit to be spot on with colour.
