While I consider msyelf knowledgeable on the car, I don't know what a CPS is.

Can you share a bit more info?

Ahh, Okay.

I have John Goodlad's Service Disc right now. I could pull up the info for you tomorrow, and fax it, whatever. Actually, given that you are in PR, I guess it would be easier to email.

However, this really depends on how many pages there are.

Angry scariest stuff happened today in my less than 1 month old W203

while i was driving tonight, i was turning left from an intersection...about middle of turn i heard this big thump coming from below (or in front) and then seems like the engine stopped for no reason. My steering was tight that i can't really move it like normal driving. I quickly pulled over, restarted the car and everything seems fine again. Needless to say it scared the **** out of me, and I am definitly not happy with this W203. The first problem was speaker creates this buzzing noise but suddenly went okay when i go to dealer...now this....with the car seems okay again i doubt it is easy to replicate it at will...and if that can't be done the stealer won't do a thing. I am really finding MB not up to standard in their new cars. Coming from a W202 that was solid like a tank without any hiccups or problems whatsoever, this is really unacceptable. Any suggestion what I can do? Anyone else having similar experience? or idea what/why this might be happening?

Well dont doubt the car that quick, maybe its just something in the road you hit maybe? I dont know i wasnt there and im just asking questions. speaker then a sound, could be minor, could be major but either which i understand its a nuisance. You expected quality in its highest form but wait awhile, after you break into it you might just enjoy driving again. You think negative of it, you will always have something bad to say. Shake it off brotha!!

The only time I've heard of the engine suddenly "quitting" on our cars has been from a bad "cps" - crank position sensor.I had it happen to me once in the C43 on the way to my mechanics shop to get it replaced.Fortunately he told me to bring a gallon jug of water along in case it quit on the way...it did..I pulled over waited a few minutes...dumped the water along the firewall (where the sensor was located) started her back up and made it to his shop. The thing that concerns me in your situation is the "thump" you heard.

2005 Mercedes C230 Sport Sedan (W203)
Sky, it might help to let us know what year/model your car is... hang in there. In my opinion, problems with the W203 (2005+ anyways) are usually few and far between, I've only seen a few people come on here with lemons... I'm sure its something that can be fixed under warranty, but with intermittant problems you have to be patient.

If it's an '07, it's under warranty. Bring it to the dealership. If the same problem comes back 4 more times, it can be considered a lemon.

If it was the crank position sensor, the noise you heard might have been a back fire through the intake as it shut off. It makes a thud sound. I heard the same thing several times on my Camero years ago when it had a problem with its sensor.

That happened to me 2 days ago. I brought it to my mercedes mechanic and he told me that it was the crankshaft sensor that was bad. I had it replaced and now it works well.

My dealership just quoted me around $400 to replace the crankshaft sensor...so I said forget it, cuz the little part only costs $140, and it does NOT take 3 hrs of labor to replace a screw!

I believe this problem was previously discussed in the forums. Try searching the forums.

I would do it for you but I'm kinda busy

Thanks for the response. I had the dealership replace it for me several months ago. I don't know the exact figure, but I believe it was around $300-$350.

This was a necessary fix, cause once the crank positioning sensor gets hot the car shuts down and will not come back on until it cools!
