question about full leather

i have full leather in my car and yesterday i was just cleaning it with lexol

ok on the sides of the seats, there is no holes like there is in the middle. i am asumming this part is not leather . so i didnt clean that part

are the sides of the seats real leather?

i know this has been discussed a thousand times. but this is the first time i actually cleaned my own leather thats why i am asking

If you have the standard upholstery (leather inserts), only the perforated part is leather. With the premium leather option, seat face is leather. This is the all the part sthat are normally in contact with your body. The rest of the seat is MB-Tex. The way to tell which you have is by the stitching. Single stitching means you have the leather seat inserts. Double stitching means you have the premium leather option.

The perforated area is the part with the holes. On the standard interior only the parts with the holes are leather. On the Premium leather interior, the parts with the holes are leather, and all the parts that are sewn to the parts with holes are leather. All the rest is MB-Tex.

In other words, with the premium leather, all the parts that normally touch your butt, legs, back and shoulders are leather. The fronts of the headrests are leather and the airbag doors are leather.

yeah, the steering wheel is leather even with the standard leather insert.

"Premium leather upholstery on all seat surfaces plus head restraints and door trim inserts."-03 c-class catalog. Which means, all the surface covered on the seats with leather are real leather. (not include the seatback) It's standard on the C32, but of course with nappa leather instead of the standard leather, and on the C32 it includes the seatback.

The steering wheel is leather trimmed with the standard interior. I haven't found anything saying if there are any differences with the premium leather.

Haha I'm still a little unclear. So with standard package, only the parts with holes are leather? I've read in the Detailing forum that our leather seats are vinyl-coated. So do we still use leather conditioner on the leather portions? And what do I use on the parts that are MB-Tex?

If you are buying a sedan, there is no reason to spend the $1440 to upgrade, IMO. If you are buying a coupe and can't stand the thought of a cloth interior in a Mercedes or hate the pattern, then the $1440 or the C5 package is money well spent.

I agree, but I think most of the cars on the dealer lot already has C5 especially the C320s. Personally I would get full leather however. It's a personal taste thing.

I definitely thought the 1440 was a waste for full java leather on our C sedan. I do like the door inserts on the full leather model tho... anyway to change these inserts?

I have seen all the part numbers for the upholstery pieces listed on a European MB web site or possible the British MB web site. The door inserts were listed. Sorry, I don't have time to do a search for it now.

You have a charcoal (dark) interior with only vinyl coated leather...all you should need is a good vacuum cleaner and a damp cloth.

steering wheel color

i have a 2002 coupe with the C5 package ("oyster" leather). what color should my steering wheel be? the wheel is black...

i've had the car since november 2001 and never even noticed until i was in a loaner with light colored leather and a matching steering wheel. also - the shifter boot on my car is black, is this supposed to match the interior color as well?

if anyone has an '02 coupe with C5 and oyster leather - please let me know what color your steering wheel is! i'm not sure what i could or would do about it... but i just wanna know! thanks!

Coupes with oyster leather had black steering wheels and shifter boots for much of 2002. There are three pictures of an Orion blue coupe with oyster leather and and a black steering wheel and shifter boot in the 2002 C class brochure. The interesting part is that in each picture the dash appears to be different color, charcoal, a darker shade of gray than oyster and oyster.

The inserts are real leather, and the rest of the seat is MB-Tex which is vinyl.
