sunroof problems.....
Listen to what happend to me last night, I was doing some Christmas shopping and on my way home i cracked the sunroof and lit a cig' What i do always to get the smoke out well when i decided t close the sunroof it wouldnt shut so i pulled over and toggled with the switches a bit and instead of it shutting it opened fully!!! And im in Baltimore Md and it was 27* couldnt get it shut for all the money in the world so i had to drive 45 mins with the sunroof open and the heat blasted until i parked it in my garage, Went to my local Mb today and they told me i need a new motor and switch 1-2 weeks and they cant get to it until after new years!! I was like WTF???? Im down here vacationing and i ship my car back to Fl and im not going to put it on a carrier without the sunroof closed..So they manualy closed it with this crank and now im drinking my car like a little hodd rat until i get back to Palm beach...I called a few other dealers and they had the same turn around time about 3 weeks. I cant figure MB out , When the new C comes out im trading my car on a cls!!! Aint nothing but a Chrysler anywayz lol lol ..Hope everyone has a happy holiday and a great new year......Guss

When I try to close the sunroof by pushing the sunroof button forward past the detent (i.e. auto-close all the way), the sunroof will only close partially, and then open all the way again. This happens with the roof in any partially openned/closed position.
To get it to close all the way, I have to hold the button forward.
I read the manual and can't find anything about this. Does it sound broken, or is there something else going on that I am unaware of? Thanks in advance!

1. Turn key to position 1 or 2
2. Press switch in the "raise" direction until rof is fully raised at rear. Hold switch for approximately one second.
Good luck!
eletromethod and others: I have a freind with the genuine factory workshop software (or so he claims) installed on his computer. It looks real to me (has all MB models thru 2003/4), and when I looked up the sunroof I found notes about having to replace the overhead controller module because of a software error(!!!!) by the manufacturer (Hella) which will cause erratic operation (problems with the auto functions, etc.). It looks like there is a dedicated microcontroller in the overhead module. I will investigate further and post here.
For those who are interested, it looks like the sensors in the car and the microcontrollers are using multiple CAN buses for communication.
um... are there two sunroof options for the c class? or are the sunroofs for the sedan 'regular' sunroofs, and the sunroofs for the coupe the panoramic ones??

Does anyone know if there is an adjustment that can be made to "flatten" it out?
Thanks in advance for the help.

I took it to my dealership for a quick look and they said they've never seen this before. They thought it was possibly the sunroof motor but they wanted $225 for the motor and $105 per hour to change that with no guarentee it would work. I ended up buying a used motor from Potomac German Auto, www.pgauto.com, and tried putting that in. It took about 20 minutes to swap out but that didn't seem to fix anything. I've tried to resynch the sunroof but that didn't work either.
Any more suggestions? I have an appointment to take it to the dealership in 2 days. I really don't want to spend the money for them to tell me what the problem is.
Thanks!
