2004 C230
smart key issues
My 2004 C230 smartkeys only lock/unlock the car when held close to the doorhandle. Both work the same, not a battery issue. It appears the car is not receiving the radio signal. Any one have an idea what the trouble is?

There are numerous threads in this regard. Your RF is down & you are depending on the IR window in the door handle.
The reasons can be many & you will find a ton of advice here.
Mainly: Due to the RF antenna being mounted in the rear screen
~ Fitment of a metallic tint - remove metallic tint
~ Antenna wires being cut when fitting a tint
~ Sticky connector pad coming unstuck at centre top of rear screen
~ Water from the tint shorting the antenna
~ Blown antenna amplifier
~ Rear screen failure. Break in traces in the glass
~ Antenna unplugged between rear & radio
