First Mercedes and have a few questions

Hello everyone. I just picked up a 2001 C240 last weekend and am liking it so far! I had wanted one of these for awhile and was finally able to purchase one at a good price.

It has 230,000km on it but runs/shifts good. Found some records that went back to 2007 but not sure what has been done since then. Getting an oil change tomorrow and getting the transmission fluid changed soon.

I have a few questions and any advice would help. I am still in high school so don't have huge amounts of money to spend. Hopefully no one gets mad if these have been asked before :P

1. Driving on uneven roads/bumps there is a rattle noise coming from the front end somewhere. Any ideas what it could be?

2. Passenger side rear window does not go down. There is a clicking noise when the button is pressed but seems like it's stuck?

3. I had a transmission shop say they can change the fluid and filter for around 250$. Does this sound too cheap? I had other places say 350-500

4. Car has the clicking from the dash and heat seems to be stuck from the bottom vents. Guessing its the stepper motors. Also makes a sqealing noise below fan speed 4. Is it even worth it to fix or should I just live with it

I'm sure there's more but this is all I can remember at the moment but I'm sure there's more. Hopefully you can see the picture.
Thanks!

Ans: Front Control arm bushings, check those they are prone to go bad....when replacing only replace them with lemforder brand they are the OEM suppliers to MB

2. Passenger side rear window does not go down. There is a clicking noise when the button is pressed but seems like it's stuck?

Ans: Could be any thing pop the panal and check I am sure it could be that the glass is either stuck or slipped off the track.

3. I had a transmission shop say they can change the fluid and filter for around 250$. Does this sound too cheap? I had other places say 350-500

Ans: Sounds resonable to me, but what I would do If I were you is buy the OEM gasket and filter from rmeuropean.com and also the oil and then ask for a labor only quote, then you will know exactly of what he is charging you for labor. I would highly recommend going this route.

4. Car has the clicking from the dash and heat seems to be stuck from the bottom vents. Guessing its the stepper motors. Also makes a sqealing noise below fan speed 4. Is it even worth it to fix or should I just live with it

Ans: I have heard on here that there is a small "L" shaped lever that is in there down belwo some where in the center whihc cane be accseed via the center vents that is prone to fail and the new part has been updated to a much stronger construction, you should reasearch more on this, This lever activates the vent movements...again research more on this......as for the squeeling noise I had the same problem in my 07 C280 it is the blower motor popped in an after market TCY brand motor found on amazone and it has been good ever since. The bearings failed in the motor so there was no sense lubricating it and what not. The aftermarket one was like $175 only....and was a super easy swap...

Hope the above helps.

Javvy.

That sounds a bit too cheap. Only because you have to remember a complete flush is around 13 Quarts of ATF. C230_Sport_Coup wrote up a great DIY (attached) and the MB instructions (also attached), give you a great idea of what all it takes. Considering the cost of the MB or MB Approved fluid I would suspect they are just planning on removing the pan, changing the filter and topping it off. However, if they can do it for that -- so much the better. Take them the directions and confirm what they are going to do and that the fluid is approved.
