Nav and CD changer Questions...
On the navigation system. does the nav cd have to be in the cd drive for it to work? Meaning do you need the nav cd in there to navigate?
And if it does, does that means when you are listening to a cd through it you cannot work the nav at the same time?
And if it doesn't either ways, can you navigate while listening to the CD?
On MB's website the Command unit is supposed to come with one regional CD. How much is this alone? And there is another option for Navigation CD Collection, USA/Canada for 145$. Is that for all regions in USA and Canada?
Lastly The 6-cd changer is $400. Why is that so expensive?

You must have the nav cd-rom in the drive in order to navigate. You cannot play a music cd while navigating, unless you have a cd-changer.
$400 for the changer is cheap compared to what they used to charge. The changer was dealer installed and it cost $775 or more, plus installation. Most dealers were charging 2 or 2.5 hours for an installation that actually takes 20 minutes. At my dealer, that would have been a total cost of just under $1200 for that $199 dollar changer. They wanted $970 for the changer and $227 in labor for the installation.

You need the cd in there to navigate? is it just me or is that just stupid.... does other navigation systems require this as well? To my knowledge it doesn't... at least for my friend's acura.

Some nav systems can compute the route info then store it in RAM. After it is stored, the nav cd can be removed and a music cd can be played. The Becker Audio 30 can do this as well as its sister product, the Harman Kardon TrafficPro.

The CD based Comand System is what scared me away from going this route. I ended up installing a Pioneer DVD based Nav System. Cost close to what the Comand System would have from the dealer and provided much more functionality.

And...
You add value to your car with all OEM parts rather than after-market parts. But of course if you like better sound system after-market is only way to go.

yep. I guess this is one of those topics that folks will always be on one side or the other. Probably not worth debating the pro's and con's of each.
I certainly agree that from a resale perspective it makes sense to go with a factory solution. I plan to hang on to my stock radio and changer and should this time ever come swap it back in.
Which ever direction one goes I will say Navigation is simply wonderful. Defintely worth the extra $.
