07 c230 S -- Repairs exceed sales price
Just bought this car 1 month ago. Already so much has gone wrong the costs for repairs exceed the sales price of the car. The actuator for a flap in the intake is made of ****ty plastic and broke. new intake manifold $2,000. The camshaft adjusters are not working properly and the balance shaft has failed, $6500+. Oh wait, im not done, the speed sensor in the transmission has failed. Hmm seems like i can just switch out the sensor. Wrong! Its part of the conductor plate which is specific to the VIN, so no chance of getting a replacement. New transmission - $8,000. If im lucky, only a valve body but still a few grand. Screw this car.
Any suggestions? Should I contact MB usa? This is beyond ridiculous and I cannot afford all of this. Now I have a fresh car loan with only 1 payment down and a POS car that doesnt really work.

no this was a specialist. I know their interests are not the same as the dealer because only the dealerships can purchase and repair transmission parts. So I do not think they would make that up. I had the warranty inspector check it out. Unfortunately the warranty only covers a fraction, its an aftermarket extended warranty
got the car from a dealer in town. told me it was checked out by a german car specialist. No way all this happened since i bought the car. the CEL came on within the first week. I am thinking about filing a claim of misrepresentation with the court

Sorry about your troubles, but unfortunately, those are common issues for that model. I am dealing with the speed sensor in the transmission right now as well. You do not need a new transmission, unless there is some other uncommon issue. Most conductor plate replacements run $1000-1400. If you have the older valve body, which I just found out is very unlikely except on very early 2007 production, then it will run around $2000-2400.
As for the balance shaft, are you sure it needs replacement? Are you getting a CEL? If so, what codes? All 2007's are outside of the serial number range for the balance shaft TSB, but there are still a few 2007's that have had the issue, though it is very uncommon. The cam magnets though, are VERY common, and are a cheap and easy fix.

You only have the balance shaft sprocket problem if you are getting codes P0016 & P0017 together. Boroscope inspection is recommended.
As long as you can retrieve the (flow bench derived) flow settings from the EPROM in the TCU & transfer them to the new unit with the conductor plate it is my understanding that the valve body will not require to be changed.

Already contacted the dealer via telephone. Was not too helpful. I purchased an extended warranty through the dealer and the owner of that warranty company works there. I am hoping that things can be worked out through that but its not likely.
I did test drive it. No CEL. This problem has been existing for a while, I scan with an OBDII and clear the codes each time. Usually the CEL cuts back on within a couple of days.

P2006, is probably just a stored code from your intake flapper actuator breaking. Since you already replaced the intake manifold, that should not be coming up again.
P0717 is for the speed sensor in the transmission. Replace the conductor plate and you are good to go.
None of those codes point to a balance shaft issue.

Listen to John. You can breath easy!!! No new transmissions & having to pull the engine.

Might be worthwhile to bring the car to Mercedes-Benz dealership or a very good Mercedes-Benz indy,... you want them to hook it up to Mercedes-Benz STAR diagnostic System and read the log (error code history),... it might give you proof that this problem was pre-existing before you brought the car,.... thus seller misrepresentation.

P0025 is the cam magnet problem. As I stated earlier. an easy cheap fix. See this thread for all the particulars: https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...-bank-1-a.html

Here are the official codes from the merc specialist:
P2004 - Intake manifold tumbler flap: short circuit to ground of sensor lines/tumble flap shafts stick in actuated position
P0025 - continuous camshaft adjustment (left): incorrect position of the exhaust camshaft
P2279 - check intake for unmetered air
P0015 - same as P0025 except for its on the right side, however this is not current, only stored.
P0717 - fault present in control module, transmission, stored not current
P0718 - same as above
Do any of these have to do with the balance shaft? Perhaps this is a crooked mechanic who is trying to exploit me and my limited warranty. They told me this would be several thousand dollars in repairs and here I am ready to file a suit against the dealer.
