BC coilover- rear shock threads stripped

After tracing a clunking sound in the rear suspension I realized my driver side shock is stripped on the top of the rod that comes through the trunk in my coupe. The nut and the rod threads are both stripped to the point that it will not tighten down enough to not clunk. Does anyone know if I can replace the rod in the shock or tap new threads for a smaller nut or do I have to replace the shock? I sent a message to BC explaining the problem but haven't heard back from them yet.

Buy a new shock....
Trying to re thread it won't last more than a couple of bounces down the road. and they are not expensive, and easy to change.

I ordered a new shock but they did't have them in stock so yeah I'm going to try to rethread the old one in the meantime

Can you not put a bunch of spacers (washers or larger solid washers,) to move the nut up higher up on the threads where they are still good. Usually the rod has a couple of inches so this can be possible and seems that someone initially over torqued the nut and stripped one or both parts. I would replace the nut as well just make sure it is the proper grade nut. DON'T put a cheap Grade 2 nut on
