2004 C240 Idler Pulley Bolt Torque spec?
I'm replacing the idler pulley on my 2004 C240 base (V6 engine obv.) Is there a specific torque I should tighten the idler pulley bolt to? I've searched quite a bit and can't find a specific spec listed here. Thanks in advance.

Just a bump for ANYONE that will EVER change this pulley. Do yourselves a favor and buy another idler pulley bolt. I just effectively won the lottery when much to my dismay, even with only 15 ftlbs applied heard the worst thing one can ever hear while working on a car...

followed by quite a slew of four letter words. Luckily for me it didn't break all the way through, it just snapped and the threads kept the bolt together enough for me to back it out slowly...holy crap. This is the worst bolt ever. EVER. Going to the dealership tomorrow to get a new bolt and request a correct torque spec before I mess up AGAIN. I'm just going to blue loctite it and hand tighten it with the ratchet.

I had the same thing happen to the lower bolt on the tensioner pulley but mine was in the case so it had to be drilled out and a helicoil used. It sucked so much

I was so scared that's what I was going to have to do and breathed a huge sigh of relief when it was still somehow together. Im not even trying to torque it down this time. I'm blue Loctiting the bolt and just tightening it down with a ratchet. Not risking it.

Happily paid the $14 to the dealership last night for the new bolt. Blue loctite and hand-tightened it down just now. For anyone that has this issue and needs to replace the bolt, it is part number 112 99 00 112. The diagrams you'll find do not show what looks to be the correct bolt, but it is.

The long bolt (about 5 inches) on the 112 engine is 9 Nm (6.6 ft/lb) with a drop of Loctite # 242 (Blue) medium strength thread locker. Do not over tighten. You are loading the bearing. Make sure the mounting surface is hospital clean, you don't want any wobble. Always replace the dust cap over the bearing.

Moviela thank you. I went to our dealership here in KC today and they told me they weren't sure, but from the other bolts around it they guessed it was 25 NM. I knew from reading here that that was **not** right. Thanks for your reply, I must have searched for hours for this one spec. I don't think I have a dust cap on the new pulley I bought from the dealership. Is that an extra part? I never saw the original pulley before it blew up on me.
