timing chain parts for m271?
Want to start gathering parts for the timing chain replacement, so I renewed my EPC account last night. When I tried to look up the parts, the timing chain, tensioner, guides are all shaded out and says n/a when I try to get info on them. What gives? Does anyone have the part #'s they can pass along? Also, if you have a source that would help too (neither Rock Auto nor AutoHaus AZ have the chain). Thanks in advance!

Wow, no love ... ?
Did some searching on Pelican and found:
chain: 000-993-21-76
right guide: 271-052-11-16
left guide: 271-052-10-16
tensioner: 271-050-06-11
Chain price varies greatly. Iwis (OEM) is ~$47., Febi is $75., and Genuine Mercedes is $240. What did you guys go with? If the Iwis is OEM I'm fine going with that, unless the Febi is a better quality (i.e. might not stretch as soon)...

I got most of my parts from genuinemercedesparts.com Prices were pretty good, and they have tons of diagrams to be sure your getting the right part.
I got my chain from the local dealer.

Man, that's quite a spread of prices!!! $47 - $208! I would buy from rmeuropean as I have so far, but that would give me pause. Half off would be a good deal, but a quarter the price sounds too good.

rmeuropean has the Iwis for $50. The Iwis is supposed to be the same (OEM) as the $200+ 'mercedes' chain. If the Febi is higher quality I have no problem getting that one. Just wondering what everyone else did...
No need to get gears? Only the chain, guides, and tensioner? Do I even need the guides if I'm just going to pull a new one thru?

The gears are very expensive.. something like $900 each was it? You only need to replace them if a tooth or teeth have been worn off by a loose chain. I would go ahead and replace the guides if you are hearing the noise on start.
RME said Iwis was the OE supplier, so that should work fine.

I have bought two sets for chain replacing: SWAG 99130315 $115 and Reinz 15-36411-01 $37. SWAG includes Iwis chain.

trying to find someone in the chicagoland area to do the chain/tensioner is like trying to find a needle in a haystack.
they either say its lifetime, let it break, no tools, their scared to do it, leave ur car here for the weekend or a week.

I'm building my parts list for the job and I want to get the best parts for the price (not MB brand, rip-off).
Thanks
This may be a dumb question but my wife's 2005 240 wagon has 120k on it. Does the timing chain need to be done? If so, what else is involved? Water pump... Etc. this is my first car with a chain and not a belt. Thanks for the help!
Not a dumb question. I'm faaaar from an expert on MBWorld, but I believe the c240's V6 engines were equipped with duplex chains. Duplex timing chains don't stretch like the 1.8 M271 Simplex chains, so I'd say you're good. If you're hearing a rattle at startup, that's typically the indication.
