Argh. Now what?

OK, I've done the following, and my 2005 C230 still has an idle issue (fluctuating at idle as well as modulating while driving steady).

So far, I've replaced:

1. The MAF
2. Upper Oxygen Sensor
3. The defective/recalled intake vacuum line
4. New battery

Last time I had the codes checked there were multiple, however I have not had them checked lately. May stop tomorrow and see what it's giving off now as the CEL is on.

Any thoughts as to what it could be now?

get the CEL codes read again or go to harbor freight and buy one for 50 or less, just make sure its canbus and obd2. it might be your plugs, how many miles you have on the car? but i wouldnt replace anything else until the codes are read

Thanks phister. Yes, going to get it read tonight, but next time I am near a HF, I am definitely getting a reader.

I thought the plugs were changed during one of my tune ups, but will have to check my records. If they were, it was probably 60k miles ago, so I may change them because they need changed.

I really want to get this running right as I'm starting to get antsy for a new buggy and want it running good in case I want to sell it in the near future.

Had the same problem in my 203. Changed all four of my plugs (I have an M271) and the rough idle went away.

Thanks LLUSKY. Been contemplating changing out the coil packs as well.

Are those an issue on the M271 engine?

Perform the reset of the transmission computer. During this reset both computer are reset the transmission and the control computer (TPS).

Thanks Greenv; I forgot about that dealio. I did it last night and the car is about 70% better, but still fluctuating.

I think I'm gonna buy my own OBD II tool; any recommendations as to which one to buy?

There are a million on Amazon. Also, I think I am going to change the plugs as well anyway.

Ugh, after driving it some more, it's back to lots of fluctuation again so when I get a little time I'll do the OBD II scanner, reset the codes since I made the changes above, and see where I'm at. I will probably do the plugs regardless since I know it's been quite some time since they were changed.

Perform a mayor maintenance for example. Change plugs and coils. Check or replace the gasoline filter, air filter and scan the car. For example of you obtain a code P0172 check for vacuum leak the famous hose under the manifold and check the site.
