Engine Light 2001 C240 - Engine Code P0220

Last weekend I had a problem with my 2001 C240 and the accelerator pedal or so I thought from troubleshooting and reading the W203 forum. I was on the highway and stomp the accelerator. When I exited the highway I notice the RPMs increasing as I came to a stop. I hit the accelerator hard and the car idled down. But every time I took off from a stop I had to hit the accelerator hard to idle the car down. It was like cruise control was on when I took off from a stop. I notice this problem did not trip the engine light.
I bought a new accelerator pedal and MAF sensor. Replaced both and now I have an engine light on. Drove the car to the local Advance Auto Parts and had them put their scan tool on the car. It came back with Throttle Position Sensor Malfunction - Switch B.
I have searched the MBWorld forums up and down and have found people with the same or similar problem but no solution. Can anyone help?

P0220 = Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch B Circuit Malfunction.

The fly by wire throttle is dual channel for safety reasons. i.e. 2 circuits.

Is the car still not responding properly with the new pedal or do you just have a CEL?

Cancel the code & check wiring at the pedal & at the throttle body if you are still having trouble. Clean plugs with switch cleaner.

Let us kow & we can take it from there. You could have a damaged throttle body actuator or an ECU gremlin. This is not likely a MAF problem.

Thanks, I will give that a try when I get off work today and post what I found later on. Thank you for the advice.

Glyn,
I gave that a try, results did not change. However, I did notice that if I try to power brake the car, the accelerator does not respond. So, I put the car in park, keep my foot on the brake and try giving it gas. Same thing, no response from the throttle. Took my foot of the brake, still in park, gave the car gas and RPMs increased but when I hit the brake will hold accelerator steady the RPMs come down immediately. What does that mean? Is the new TPS bad or is it the computer?

It's either the pedal (TPS), The ECU or the throttle body actuator ~ or damaged wiring or a connector somewhere. You might have to get the car onto a Star to diagnose.

I don't undestand the brake interaction. Make sure all your vacuum lines are OK.

Okay, that's probably what I'll end up doing, taking it to MB. Thanks for taking your time to reply.
