Another strange noise..

Well a few months back there was a strange whining when i started the car and it continued while i drove and accelerated. I ended up changing my tensioner and my idler pulley along with my belt and it went away but there was still a sound when i started the car. Its only for about a second and only on a cold start. it sounds like a ticking. It sounds like something is ticking while the belt makes it first full rotation. The weird thing is that it is only on a cold start. I took a quick video when i left work last night but its not that great, you can hear it though just not as loud . I would make another but my ecu is away being tuned so i cant start the car.

It's probably a hydraulic lifter pumping up. If it was the good old purge valve it would do it all the time.

Hmmm in my dads ford you can hear the lifter all the time. Is it a problem to only do it for 2 seconds and only on cold starts? Sometimes it's louder then others but you can always hear it

No it's not a problem if it's for a very short period of time. You should try 2 short oil changes of maybe 3000 miles each. There might be some varnish build up on the lifter. Do you know the service history of the car?

Not much I know it was serviced at an mb dealer idk the intervals though when I got it, it had the service indicator on the lcd saying like 5k miles so either it was recently service when I got it or they just reset that but I changed the oil anyway to be safe about a month ago. I used to use 5-30 on my w202 then I saw a lot of people here using 0-40 and unfortunately no one around sells 0-40 but I did get 10-40 and use that. It's very hot here so I wasn't too worried about the 10. When winter comes ill order some 0-40 though

THE C350
I hope you are using an approved oil whatever weight it is. 229.5 is what you want. In the USA your right Mobile one 0w-40 is the easiest to find heck every walmart I have been to up and down the east coast has it so I am surprised if TN doesn't. I do know that my store when it was out of stock of the 5 quart containers ordered them for free and I had them within a week. But whatever you do make sure you use an approved oil and the fleece filter *not paper crap. BTW the service interval on the c320's is 10,000 miles mine has very close to 200,000 miles with 10-14000 mile intervals and has been perfect.

Damn 10,000?? Idk if I feel comfortable going that far lol Mesn I trust mobile 1 100% but 10 thousand miles is a lot... And yes idk why I can't find 0-40 anywhere around here. I'm going to order it online though for the next time because my father said he used 5-40 and 0-50 in his early 70s 280se so I know it's good stuff I just can't see the noise going away fr me switching from 10-40 to 0-40

10K miles is fine. These cars have large sumps. 13K miles is fine with a fleece filter.

Wow I really didn't know that. But I'll do like you said and change it again soon. I'm planning on going on a decently long trip(750 miles) so ill change next month hat should put it at around 3000 miles. Anything else to check if its the lifter?

No ~ if it's a ticking lifter it's either clean up improves it or you replace it.

Ah alright. And I know lifters are an expensive job. I was thinking about flushing my coolant and getting it replaced so I might have them do an oil flush as well. If it is just build up, hat should take care of it
