I have a 2002 Mercedes Benz C240. I can no longer shift gears for "park and reverse." I can only shift gears into "drive and neutral". It drives fine, no engine light comes on, but I can't get the key out of the ignition because the gears won't go into park mode. Any suggestions as to what might be the problem.

As a temporary solution, you could put it into neutral, put on the parking brake, and the key should be removable as of that point. It's basically like parking a manual vehicle.
Do you have a CEL? If so, get them read. If not, go to the dealer and see if there are any codes that they can pull with the STAR scanner. Work from there. It could be the CPU thinking that your foot isn't on the brake, therefore not letting you shift into park or reverse. What you could also do is break the plastic 'stopper' that disallows you to shift gears unless your brake is on. It should be right below the shifter, under the trimmings.
