C230 Trans Oil/Filter Service at Dealer?
I called my local authorized MB dealer and they say they will do trans oil & filter service for $350 + tax.
Does anyone know how much independent shop (that works on MB) would charge?
I called a few ind shops at my area but they all say they don't do trans oil change on MB. There's got to be one that knows how to do...
I read the DIY on the trans oil/filter change but it seems little more work than I expected - not having a fill tube on the C230 is the major stumbling block for me. I did on my Escalade and was easy.

Your in southern CA right? we have many members in southern CA so I am sure one could point you in the right direction. $350 does not sound as bad as I have heard others quoted so thats good. You need 12-14quarts of fluid to do the job and if you source the fluid from MB that alone would probably be $150 minimum then you need the filter and gasket which is around $25 I would guess. So at the normal rate that would be around 2 hours labor so for a Mercedes dealer ship that is cheap.
That said if you can find a local distributor for shell you can get the ATF134 from them for around $5-8 a quart and order the trans filter and gasket from RMEUROPEAN or Pelican Parts or something like that and then take the parts to an Indy and save some money.
Just make sure that they are doing a flush not a pan drain/filter change as they need to drop the pan and change filter as well as flush it out.

Thanks for the input!
I was thinking the same thing . Even if I do it, the parts cost alone would be close to $200. Then I need the $200 tool.
I googled and found a small ind shop that says to specialize working on MB. They say they can do for $290. For that price, I think I will go to an authorized MB dealer!

I seriously doubt that price is for a FULL transmission oil change,.. where they flush out ALL the old transmission oil,... and thus require to use 12-14 litres of transmission oil. MB transmission fluid is about $20-25 per litre,... so 12-14 litres will cost $240 to $350 in oil alone.
The Mercedes dealership will only do a PARTIAL transmission oil change,... where they only drain out whatever transmission oil is in the pan,... usually 3-4 litres out of the 8 litres that's in the transmission,... meaning about 4-5 litres of the old dirty transmission oil will still remain in your transmission. Usually cost about $500-600 for parts and labour.
Heck,... I've never heard of a Mercedes dealership doing a FULL transmission oil change,... let me know if anyone have ever heard of this happening.

Did you verify with the MBZ dealership that the $350 covers the full flush (trans and TC) and fill or just whatever amount drains out they refill with new fluid? $350 sounds too good to be true especially at a MBZ dealership. Perhaps they misunderstood and gave you a price quote for the fluid alone although I'm sure they'd be more than encouraging to have you bring it to the dealership.

I asked/confirmed with the service writer BEFORE taking in my car over, and asked/confirmed again AFTER the job was done with the actual mechanic who did the work.
I have had good/pleasant experiences with this dealership in the past and I highly recommend if you are near Los Angeles (east) area.

How many litres or quarts of transmission oil is listed on your invoice? Mercedes-Benz transmission oil?

Highly doubt they did a full flush for that price. Definitely check that invoice for the amount of oil used. Few years ago when I first got my MB, I went to the stealership for tranny service and was charged a whopping $550. Later that month when I read up about their scheme, I decided to check my invoice and found out they only flushed 6 quarts. You live and you learn...

House of Imports did my car for $350 all in. They drop the pan, clean it, replace the filter, then disconnect the cooler line and connect a machine that exchanges the fluid by heating the new fluid and pumping it through the system until it runs clear, then add until the correct amount is in the box. I paid for 3 gallons and 2 quarts. They are in Buena Park. Greg Penske runs a first class outfit too. The dealers are fairly close and will meet each others prices.
