TELEAID BATTERY DRAIN

Hey all,
Upon my initial search of the persistent batt drain, using a multimeter, I found a dramatic drop once I pulled fuse no. 40 (teleaid). Any recommended solutions anyone?
I have yet to test more fuses in the trunk until tomorrow. For now the teleaid showed the drop.

Is it safe to just leave the #40 fuse out for a while?
Thanks for the assist.

Teleaid used an analog (AMPS) mobile phone system that has been turned off since 2008.

Unless you paid a small fortune for a new digital system, you can leave the fuse out forever because no one is listening.

How much did the current change? We all like to know.

I don't know how accurate my multimeter is -cheap Cen-tech $4 meter-but fuse in 0.39 -0.41. Fuse out 0.07.

It usually drains overnight so I take the neg. battery cable out every time. I will leave it hooked up tonight and see if it will grain with the fuse out.

Thanks.

400 milliamps sounds like a module has not gone to "sleep" and is still awake and listening to the canBUS. This usually occurs with seat modules in early production cars due to a lack of power supply bypassing.

70 milliamps sound like a normal key out current draw. Perhaps unplug the teleaid module in the trunk to confirm it is the bad actor.

I have a few CenTech meters from Harbor Freight. They are not going to replace my Fluke anytime soon, but they are reasonably accurate. I get them free from coupons in the mail.

Definitely the teleaid. Car started without a problem today. I did not even check the module.

The problem now is the malfunction messages. I have 2 of them: The teleaid, of course, and SRS(key in).

Is the SRS going to be a safety issue problem I have to be concerned about?

I know the codes can be erased...but by disconnecting the module solve the error messages?

Battery charge: 12.71 V (car off)

Thx.

Unplug the teleaid module, and use star das to remove it from the system. Replace the fuse #40. That fuse does not serve the SRS system. While star das is connected find out why the airbag system is taking the day off. You really need the service manual to safely work with the airbag system. It is expensive and dangerous if you trigger it accidently.

It is possible the SRS problem is related to the weight sensor in the passenger seat cushion.

I appreciate your help Moviela.
I think this problem would not be fixed for a awhile. Funds are very limited at the moment just hardly working and in college. At least I know what is going on with the car.
I think i'll just keep on pulling the fuse after every use.

This really sucks.

Do you know the cost to remove it an an indie shop?

Thx.

No, not close. Its easy to get to, its under your trunk mat. Once the mat is out, remove the two bolts holding the plastic panel right in front of your spare. In the pic attached, ignore the black arrows. I have the Teleaid connector in the red box.

Negative! That's your rear SAM (Signal Acquisition Module), the teleaid module is the one on the picture from jrsmith. It's the one on the left with the orange sticker on it.

Thanks guys..Ill play with it tomorrow.

@turbonos: The SRS error appears when I pull the fuse out with the key in the ignition...Don't know why. I'm testing if I put the fuse back in but take the module connection off ,maybe it will get rid of the SRS light. It only happens when the key is in. I only get the teleaid error in key out.
Thanks for the help.

FOUND IT!!!

Now the million dollar question: How do you take it out?

Is the whole black part it? Does it pull straight out? I tried and felt like I was pulling enough already but it would not come off. Also tried to pull that metal part out without success.

Just don't want to break anything...looks expensive.

Thanks.

The metal tab rotates. You have to unclip it from the side.

Got it out! I put fuse # 40 back in. The problem still persists. Still getting the SRS warning when key is in. There are no malfunctions if I put everything back.

Why is the SRS acting up if it not related to teleaid? And teleaid is analog,is it not?

Does this mean the aribag won't be working?

The SRS is connected digitally to the TeleAid on the canBUS. The TeleAid radio is analog, but it communicates over the canBUS with the car.

As designed the modules on the canBUS go into a sleep mode when not spoken to for a period of time. Some modules have a history of staying awake (like children) when they should be sleeping. The early seat modules are the worst offenders.

The SRS system can alert TeleAid (when it was live) that an airbag had been deployed. TeleAid would alert the police of your location. The SRS might be complaining that the TeleAid is not listening when you remove the fuse or unplug the Motorola TeleAid module.

I suggest you get a Star DAS service shop to recode the SAM that TeleAid is not present, and the SRS system should settle down. You can then remove the Motorola box.

Or get a relay and install it in series with the TeleAid fuse maybe? It would "pull the fuse" when you turn the car off, and "plug the fuse back" when you turn it on.
Is there a switched 12V in there close?

Guess I have no other choice but go to the shop.

Thx guys..

I found a used module on ebay for $59. Do you guys think it is worth getting it?
Will a different module fix the problem or is it an electrical problem caused by something else that affected the teleaid?
Anybody Pls reply. I'm planning to buy it as soon as I get some opinion/s. Pulling the fuse out every time is getting annoying. I never used teleaid and I can't afford an upgrade either. Just want to rid of the persistent drain problem and error messages.

Thanks.

A teleaid module has a value of zero. Find a garage with a star diagnosis system and change the version coding to remove teleaid. Then take out the module.
